Great audio starts from Pre-Production(planning) , NOT Post-Production.
Some locations are characterised by unique problems.
Shooting at a very windy beach, for instance, is a sure way to end up with an awful sound recording.
It's best to employ subtle alternatives: #Wild takes, #ADR. By default, a sound mixer should raise an alarm in this kind of situation (unless they have mapped out a fool-proof plan to capture good sound)
Sound editing becomes a nightmare when there are little or no attempts by the Sound Mixer to flag extraneous noise on set, bad cables, poor wireless signal, noisy costume etc.
Good Sound Mixers speak up and flag these issues. Consequently, film sound is great when their contributions are valued.
