Let’s shine a spotlight on the work of our local filmmakers! This week, we’re featuring Diego Ratto. Diego Ratto is an Italian composer based recognized for crafting immersive film scores that fuse electronic textures, guitar, and traditional instrumentation with elements of sound design. His distinctive hybrid approach creates rich sonic environments that deepen emotion and expand the boundaries of contemporary film music. His work has received multiple accolades, including First Prize for Best Score from Edison Studio at the RomaEuropa Festival (in collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna and SIAE), First Prize at the Rimusicazioni Film Festival, and concert music awards such as the Prix Russolo and Prix CIME. During his time in Stockholm, Diego collaborated with acclaimed composer Johan Söderqvist, further refining his voice across film and video game scoring. He was part of the BMI Composer Lab, he also serves as director and mentor of the Composer Mentorship Program within the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s 10-10-10 initiative. Diego studied film scoring at the University of California, Los Angeles, and holds a PhD in Music Composition from the University of California, Santa Barbara, along with a Master’s in Electroacoustic Composition from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. @ttora_

I’m incredibly proud to have collaborated with @officialsbiff to launch the Composer Mentorship Program as a new component of the 10-10-10 Young Filmmaker Program. It was a very successful first year, and it was so exciting to see what the inaugural class of composers created for the ten short films that premiered at the fantastic Arlington Theatre. A huge thank you to @sbfilmgeek for trusting me to help bring this new initiative to life at the festival, alongside @cwaterhs Head of the Educational Program, and with the invaluable support of @2grace_red
