Chanoyu in May
Fri, May 15
21:30 - 23:30
@tranzac292
Guest producer: @matthewbaileymusic
Guest improvisers: @missngmusic and Ted Crosby
----
The title "Chanoyu" refers to the Japanese tea ceremony 🍵 , where host and guest are equals, focused on creating a singular time and space together (Ichigo Ichie).
Big shout out to @klassic_kool_shoppe and @sloweditions for collaborating on the art and design for In Another.
The inspiration was based on Zhangzi’s parable “Butterfly’s dream.” A man became a butterfly in his dream, and when he woke up, he didn’t know whether the butterfly was dreaming of being a man or a man was dreaming of being a butterfly.
I love how the cover artwork evolved from 2D to 3D, and back to 2D again. Alicia and Eunice experimented with an overhead projector to create a hybrid image. From the vantage point of a basement studio, an out of focus butterfly and collaged characters from the dream world and nature blow in from the window, in and out of frame. To me, the artwork captured a moment where imagination and reality blur.
Coming up in just 1 month, singular songwriter Eric Chenaux (with Ryan Driver) and experimental guitar maverick Rafael Toral (Drag City Records) co-headline a special TONE concert on May 14th at Standard Time. Local electronic avant pop vibe setter Masahiro Takahashi opens the night in duo with saxophonist Brodie West. Come for the sonic delights, stay for the hang.

See you there!
I’ve been looking forward to hosting my monthly residency Chanoyu @tranzac292 , again!
This season, I’m taking a more collaborative creation approach—guest producer, improvisers, and myself experimenting together. Sometimes well-prepared, sometimes that “Against The Clock” vibes.
Fri, April 17

Tranzac Southern Cross
Guest producer: @leeparadiso (electribe)
Guest improvisers: @islacraigmusic & @vicsanointedfavourites (voices, etc)
Host: Masahiro (ableton)
2 sets of spontaneous jamming, likely leaning to Downtempo.

My new album "In Another" is out today! 新譜『In Another』リリース日です!
Over the past few years, I've been looking for inspiration in the world around me — going to shows, having conversations, playing with people. Thinking about what I actually want to make, and what I might offer to music right now. I think this album captured that human warmth.
It started in the spring of 2025, sitting in co-producer Joseph's studio Aytche, listening to demos and talking through arrangement ideas. Over the following months, a group of friends (also known as The Wrecking Crowd!) shaped these songs into what they are. When Chris and Doro added their voices in September, I could see what this record wanted to be. Alicia and Eunice made the music visible 🦋
Huge thanks to Joseph for shaping this into what it is. To Sandro, who became more than a mastering engineer — my artist counselor lol. To Nick, for the mentorship. To Eunice, for keeping me true to my art. And to Telephone Explosion for supporting local music!
Thanks for listening. I hope this album finds its way into your everyday!
