Happy National Library Week!
Libraries are among the most meaningful spaces we design. Places where communities can come together, explore ideas, and individuals can find quiet reflection and focus.
We are proud to partner with communities to create libraries that are welcoming, adaptable, and built for the future. They go far beyond books, offering space both to gather and to pause.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT! Western Connecticut State University’s Higgins Hall sits at the geographic heart of the midtown campus, and now, it finally feels like it.
What was once the “back” of the building became the new front door to campus. The former two-story lecture hall was thoughtfully reimagined as a light-filled main entrance and lobby, opening to the quadrangle with a welcoming canopy and outdoor gathering space.
The renovation stripped the building to its structural framework and reprogrammed it for today’s learners. Small windows and dark corridors gave way to open, daylight-filled interiors. Flexible furnishings support everything from quiet study to collaborative work.
Academic spaces are intentionally organized for connection. The TV production studio sits adjacent to digital editing and classrooms, enabling real-time, integrated learning. A 3-D computer lab strategically supports the Computer Science and Math Departments, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Higgins Hall demonstrates how adaptive reuse can reposition an existing building as a vibrant academic hub, strengthening campus identity while supporting evolving pedagogy.
