If you say that to someone you know you mean it. And so do they.
My Uncle Jack was a bachelor until late in life. He was my dad‘s business partner at the gas station, Supple Brothers Texaco, in Chicago. One of the coolest things about him is he owned a yacht. He worked his way up from a small ChrisCraft to a real big one, a 56 footer. One of the treats on summer Sundays was a ride on Uncle Jack’s boat. I can’t believe it, but sometimes my dad would let us sit up front on the bow of the boat with our legs dangling over getting splashed by the Lake Michigan waves.
The boat was named BriMar. It was named after my Grandma Bridget Supple and my aunt, my dad and uncles’ one and only sister, Mary. Some of you remember Mary became a nun and was our dear Sister Mary, a Sinsinawa Dominican, who was the kindest person I ever met.
I luckily have my dad‘s photographs, slides, negatives, and movie reels. And there are many photos of BriMar in them. But this first one was the only one that showed the name of the boat on the back. It’s a beaut, isn’t it?
I’m sure my dad Charlie, my Uncles Jack, Jim, Tom, and Frank all considered themselves safe harbors to Bridget and Mary as well as to their aging father John Supple. To me, that means if they needed anything one of them would always be there. How special is it to have a harbor in your life? Thank you SK for this great new song. 🙌🎶

MARY POPPINS at The Little Theatre on The Square 🌂🐦🫧 what a joy it was to return to this story at one of my favorite places with the best team I could ask for. I wasn’t sure if this one was going to be in the cards for me, but I couldn’t be more thankful I got to be the kookiest Robertson Ay once again (swipe to the end for a ten-year throwback)
