MOTHER OF THE BRIDE (IYA IYAWO) —-> delivered to you via TB-S(tudio) c/o TBHQ        Months and months of work went into the careful planning and execution of this ensemble. When I started this commission, a popular Yoruba saying came to mind: _“Asó tó lọ university”_ (a garment that has reached the very highest school of mastery).         I tasked myself and my team to deliver a serious look, for a serious occasion, for a very serious woman…the most delectable ‘N O of life’. This was never going to be just the making of a dress; it was the making of an heirloom.        Our dress a vintage French lace embroidered with rafia, hand-made glass beads and sequins in a mixture of colours - bordeaux, apricot and grey overlaid onto silk satin organza backed with the finest Italian silk faille and lined with a sand-washed silk crepe. For the gele, Nana’s head was majestically adorned with a Leopard patterned Italian cloqué. The look was paired with a custom satin top handle clutch bag, vintage jewels in keeping with our ‘old world mastery’ theme and sleek black platforms.         From first sketch to final fitting, refined across continents this was more than dressmaking.
