We’re really proud of Nathan, one of our engineers at Homeplay, sharing his journey on stage at @ise_show , and to a pretty large room for his first big talk!
After being offered redundancy last year, Nathan focused on building the right skills rather than rushing into his next role.
That led him to @cediahq , through their Smart Residential course and by using CEDIA’s website to connect with integrators across the industry.
That initiative opened the door to Homeplay, where James, Homeplay owner and CEDIA board member, recognised his drive and willingness to learn.
A great reminder that there’s no single route into AV. Skills matter. Initiative matters.

So exactly 22 days ago, my life was changed with a single announcement that my fellow @cediahq Board of Directors made the decision to support me to be the next Chairman of the Board.
With a monumental milestone of being the first female and the most recent integrator (that still spends time out in the field) to hold the position, I’ve had lots of people asking about my story and my goals, so for those that are interested….here’s some cliff notes….
I didn’t start out with a goal to be here, but along my journey that started in technology in 2003, I’ve had some pretty GREAT opportunities and even more AMAZING people that have blessed my journey here!
There are far too many to name them all here, but let me start with the three most important ones…..to my husband Ponch, thank you for pushing me to ‘be the woman with a voice that I didn’t always see around me’ and to my kids Morgan & Tyler for always encouraging me to be a mom that could do BIG things in the workplace!
To the rest of my people, those from @dishnetwork that started me on my technical journey, to my @cediahq FAMILY, over the next 2 years I hope you’ll join me here as my main goal is to use this opportunity to SERVE you all and allow my time as Chairman to be my ‘THANK YOU’ back to an industry and a community of people that have given me so much!

I just wrapped up several days of meetings for the @cediahq Board of Directors, where we gather in person three times per year to SERVE the CEDIA community and continue shaping the future of our industry! 💡
This week’s meetings were held in London, culminating with the CEDIA EMEA Awards (more to come on that soon!) — an AMAZING night where we had the opportunity to connect with CEDIA members from across the region and CELEBRATE their accomplishments! 🏆🙌

When you have a large foyer, you need to have a CENTERPIECE that draws you in and draws your eyes up and ordinary won’t do it….you need EXTRAORDINARY!
That was the situation we faced in our recent Gull Lake project with @42northarchitecture , we had a foyer that was 19x16x16 that needed to not only draw you IN to the space, but to cause you to gaze UP at the SIMPLE, but STUNNING architectural details.
We knew that ordinary just wouldn’t cut it, so we worked with our manufacturer to CREATE this ONE-OF-A-KIND piece that not only filled the space and drew your vision up, but it used MIXED METAL finishes to compliment the DESIGN aesthetic the client desired.
Additionally, we HIGHLIGHTED the piece with a second layer of lighting by ACCENTING the entire cove with light….when you build your DREAM home, it’s IMPORTANT to have your ARCHITECTURAL and LIGHTING team on the same page!
In this instance, since we were the ELECTRICIAN on the project, as well as INTEGRATOR and LIGHTING DESIGNER, we were able to CREATE this with a smaller team, but ALL of these roles needs to be considered when building….
1 - The LIGHTING DESIGNER will determine PLACEMENT and DEVELOP the lighting LAYERS to accent the ARCHITECT’S design.
2 - The ELECTRICIAN will INSTALL and POWER the lighting FIXTURES.
3 - The INTEGRATOR will CONTROL the layers of lighting to create the PERFECT lighting scene every time!
Projects like this only come together by having a TEAM that the client TRUSTS to bring the VISION from paper to REALITY!

It’s not everyday that you get the OPPORTUNITY to CUSTOM DESIGN a light fixture of this SIZE & CALIBER for a space but when Ryan LaHaie from @42northarchitecture DESIGNED this AMAZING entrance to the Gull Lake home we worked on….we knew we needed something EXTRAORDINARY!
Morgan & Amanda worked with their rep from @ai.spire to have this ONE-OF-A-KIND piece of lighting JEWELRY created that is over 6 feet in diameter and we think it turned out STUNNING!
The process wasn’t quick or easy, but the client TRUSTED our VISION and is now in LOVE with this SHOW-STOPPER!
