reading ecology of freedom right now, thinking about humans AS nature, and the limits of categorization and language to deal with the ever evolving nature of all things that humans do.
how is it that social and political institutions now are thought to be identical to the same social institutions from 20 years ago, when they are shaped by a natural human world that faces entirely different challenges and evolve accordingly? The recognition of this fact is helpful in understanding how power and domination hide themselves in these institutions by claiming them to be immutable.

"Industrialism, by its very nature, destroys the magic of human existence. Consider the way we, as industrialized people, relate to our environment. Everywhere we see huge cities, highways, factories, universities, airports. Everywhere the trees, the plants, the animals have been slaughtered. In 1969, the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center reported that there was no longer any uncontaminated air anywhere in North America (Roszak, 16). In 1970, Thor Heyerdahl crossed the Atlantic in a handmade boat. He reported that he could not find one oil-free stretch of water during the entire crossing (Roszak, loc. cit.). What kind of people are we that we do this to the environment? “Only those who have broken off their silent inner dialogue with man and nature, only those who experience the world as dead, stupid, or alien and therefore without a claim to reverence, could ever turn upon their environment and their fellows with the cool and meticulously calculated rapacity of industrial society”

Thinking lots about the hidden (or ignored!) costs of further technological advancement, and what horrors we will witness as a result of "progress"
coming on to say that i think Murray Bookchin is one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century and if you have not listened to his 1978 talk on the Ecology Movement, or read Post-Scarcity Anarchism, this is your sign from the universe to do so.
