DSRPT.: What does it mean to you to be a DSRPTER OF THE YEAR?
Trishtan Williams: I am honored and thankfuL to be the DSRPTER of the year, honestly. I've worked really, really, really, really, really hard and I worked hard not trying to get acknowledgment or accolades. I was just working hard because it's fun. And then when your work starts to speak for itself and then it starts to get acknowledgment on a grand scale and people are like, girl, you making moves and waves, you disrupting the industry, but in the greatest way. I am honored. I feel so good in the space that I've done something and I'm breaking barriers also, not just in documentaries, but in the sports space, where young women, young boys, young people can look at me and say it is possible. More importantly, I feel amazing about being the DSRPTER of the year is that I am an African-American, young girl from South Central, whose done the unthinkable and I am thankful and honored and I thank God every second every day when I wake up.

DSRPT.: Name three things that inspire you right now.
Trishtan Williams: I am inspired by my son. Iām always inspired by him. It probably sounds so cliche but my son is such a huge factor into my mental capacity. So Iām inspired by my son because when I watch him navigate himself, and his personal world as a young teen, a young adult, and navigating what everybody else is doing, heās not doing none of those things, heās really locked in and focused⦠Iām inspired by myself and Iām only saying myself in a sense because Iām in a transition where Iāve always been the inspiration for a lot of people and I didnāt realize that. But now Iām inspired by myself because Iām actually elevating myself and Iām scaling myself and thatās a process and itās actually scary. And it takes a level of sense to look at yourself and be able to make change and a lot of people donāt have that ability to change their lives because they operate out of fear. So Iām inspired that Iām not operating out of fear and to push myself to scale. Iām inspired by my mom⦠I look at my mom and she didnāt have half of the money, she didnāt have half of the resources I have⦠My mother is so strong, I look at her and Iāll be like, girl, you havenāt pulled your hair out with all these kids and you managed to manage us and do it with such grace and with a calm demeanor. And Iām inspired by that because I am the woman and the mother that I am because of my mom, 110%.

DSRPT.: When your schedule feels overwhelming, what brings you back to yourself the fastest?
Trishtan Williams: I re-align my mental and I delegate myself. So just like I have to delegate other people, I delegate myself and I make out my list and I prioritize the most important to least important. So whatever needs to be done right now, right in front of me, I just write this list out and I start knocking it off. If I canāt get to it in that day, what is ever at the bottom of that list, that is the priority for the next day. So thatās how I donāt allow myself to get so overwhelmed because there are so many moving parts and so many people pulling and tugging at me. I actually write every single thing down.

Some women enter rooms and some women build them Trishtan Williams does both. As a Director, Showrunner, and Executive Producer, she has led projects like Starting 5 in collaboration with the NBA streaming now on Netflix. Strategic in her movement and firm in her values, she understands that success comes from having control. From South Central to major platforms, sheās carving space where there wasnāt any.
DSRPT.: Youāve become very successful throughout the years by working on multiple shows, did you always know you wanted to go into production or was it something that sparked your attention later in life?
Trishtan Williams: I was a professional dancer as a little girl with the Nigerian Talking Drum Ensemble with Mr. and Mrs. Awe as our leads, and I met them at Figueroa Elementary. They just used to come to the school and teach young inner city kids how to do African dance and play the drums⦠And so because of that experience with them, thatās when I learned about production and I was excited about it. I thought it was cool. Youāre behind the scenes and the lighting, the spotlights, the sound and all of the things on a grand scale. So you donāt understand that at that moment, you just know something is piquing your interest.
