禾乃登 / Rice ripens
What a nice summer it's been. Been camping for the first time, went for city trips and even finally made music for the first time in like six months.
Currently climbing the career ladder and I'm now a specialist in city planning law, which has led me to absorb everything I can about architecture, traffic and general layouts. So to shake things up in my spare time, I've taken an interest in fashion and interior design.
立春 / Beginning of spring
Did a lot during the first month of the year, even if it wasn't always in line with my resolution to "live more analog". (Like when I was binging James Hoffmann on yt while ill.) (I will soon become absolutely insufferable regarding tea AND coffee.)
But I did find a Manfrotto tripod for better pics at the charity shop, was gifted some amazing books for spending the little hours with and threw multiple memorable parties.
I see a lot of discussions regarding AI and politics lately. But rest assured, I will always provide you a few seconds of peace and quiet before you resume your doomscrolling session.
鱖魚群 / Salmon gather and swim upstream
It is my birthday! And what a year to look back on. My gig at Ruigoord with @rocket_not was the most fun I've had during a live show and my holiday in Scotland was simply phenomenal.
I also got my certificate to be a building permit authority and a permanent contract at the office. All great news to close the year with.
Just like the salmon during this microseason, my friends give me the strength and confidence to always carry on. 2025 is gonna be great!
玄鳥去 / Swallows leave
My least favourite microseason for the sole reason that I love swallows so much and can't bear to miss them for so long yet again.
I couldn't imagine a more appropiate time to be moving out. My parents and I have been feeling these days with a particular heaviness of heart.
In a few days I'll be unplugging my studio, turning in my last exam and hope I don't break my tea set during the chaos of moving.
Thankful for memories of another lovely summer.
土潤溽暑 / Earth is damp, air is humid
Another post, another microseason at the Japanese garden.
Messed up this roll of film by severely underexposing it (800 ISO instead of 200), but it looks like a low poly horror game and whatever, I'll make it work. Going back with a new roll tomorrow, though.
Doing some field recording and producing on the side and I passed my construction law exam for my job 🎉
温風至 / Warm winds blow
Reeds sound beautiful in person when the wind blows through them. However, it sounds like white noise when you listen back. I find it difficult to capture the sound of wind in general, since you can never have it hit your microphone.
Trees luckily offer the comfort of shadow, a canvas for wind to hit, and the birds in them for context to the listener.
Oh how I've missed summer.
Shot on Kodak Gold 200. Captured by RØDE NTG3 Shotgun mic + Zoom F3 field recorder.
夏至 / Summer solstice
Had a lot of fun with @klay_modular and @de_gier at De Kamer in Zaandam, playing a mix of trip hop and dub.
Bet you can spot the Massive Attack sample here in my opening track for the evening.
The flowers are blooming so nicely. Together with my new polarizer lens filter, I got the sky to look much more blue too.
立夏 / Beginning of summer
After the tea ceremony photo session, my dad casually mentioned he still keeps his old Minolta X-700 in the attic. We took a look together, and the leather casing looked exactly as one might expect after 30+ years.
He said "if you can salvage it, it's yours" and I cleaned and conditioned the hell out of it.
Shot on Kodak Gold 200 around the end of April / begin of May.
櫻始開 / First cherry blossoms
I feel really grateful that I got to experience another awe-inspiring cherry blossom viewing this micro season.
Silently working on my album in the background.
雀始巣 / Sparrows start to nest
brilliantly white
fresh snow, linen sheets, silence
until treaded on
All my recent posts are a silent protest against noise. Please have a second of peace here before you scroll further.
