Showcasing over 170 of the great Renaissance master’s works, ‘Raphael: Sublime Poetry’ is on at the MET through 28th June.
A curatorial triumph, the exhibition brings together works from 62 lenders, both private and public, across Europe and the United States.
Alongside Raphael’s famous masterpieces such as his ‘Portrait of Baldassarre Castiglione’ and ‘Young Woman with a Unicorn’, sit rarely seen drawings, including preparatory sketches for the Stanze at the Vatican.
Even King Philip II of Spain’s tapestries, woven from Raphael’s cartoons designed for Pope Leo X for the decoration of the Sistine Chapel, have left Spain for the first time to adorn the walls of the MET for the duration of the exhibition.
Not only is this not to be missed if you are in New York, but it is also well worth the trip over if you aren’t.
ANTONELLO DA MESSINA. MARCO DELOGU
opened today at the gallery.
In a dialogue that crosses centuries and disciplines, this exhibition invites the onlooker to rediscover the work of both artists in an unexpected light.
The show now includes four new photographs of the works of Antonello da Messina held at the National Gallery.

A new exhibition dedicated to Michaelina Wautier opens at the Royal Academy this Friday 27th March.
An oft-overlooked artist, Michaelina Wautier was active in Brussels in the middle of the 17th century and ventured into various genres, from the more typically feminine flower-painting to history painting.
Frustratingly little is known about Michaelina’s life - her brother Charles, a fellow painter whose work also features in this exhibition, inherited her possessions and in 1698 everything was auctioned off, but no catalogue remains, nor do any of her personal papers.
Recognised in her own lifetime, Michaelina’s fame faded quickly after she died and it was not until relatively recently that she was ‘rediscovered’ when several works were re-attributed to her, such as the ‘Triumph of Bacchus’ at the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna, originally part of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria’s collection, which was only connected with her again in 1967.
Having been shown in Vienna first, the exhibition runs in London until 21st June - if you’re in town, don’t miss it!

And so TEFAF 2026 draws to a close…
Thank you to everyone who visited our stand, it was a pleasure to see so many of you at the fair.
Until next year, Maastricht.
Only a few more days of this year’s TEFAF in Maastricht!
Don’t miss the opportunity to see this wonderful ‘Education of Cupid’ by Anton von Maron.
Venus and Mercury are trying to teach Cupid to write, the discarded tablets lying at the young boy’s feet indicative of his so-far failed attempts, hampered perhaps by the fact that despite being equipped with his usual bow and arrows, he lacks the necessary equipment to complete his present task - the pencils in Mercury’s hand!
A pupil of Mengs, Von Maron drew his inspiration for this painting from a work depicting the same subject by Correggio which would have been known to him through Meng’s detailed description of it in his writings.
Signed (twice) and dated, this is one of Von Maron’s later compositions, and a few of its details remain unfinished. It is unknown whether the piece was born from a commission which never came to full fruition or whether it was always intended for the free market in Rome. In either case, its inception was likely affected by the Napoleonic invasion of Italy in 1799.
We have very much enjoyed seeing so many of you on our stand over the last few days and hope to see more during the last days of the fair.

It is almost time for TEFAF - doors open tomorrow for two days of invitation-only preview before opening to the general public on Saturday!
One piece from the exciting selection of works we are presenting at the fair this year is this beautiful tondo by Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.
A close collaborator of Raphael, Ghirlandaio chose to remain in Florence instead of accepting his friend’s invitation to follow him to Rome. The influence of the great Renaissance master can be felt in the style and serenity of this ‘Holy Family with the Infant St John’.
The painting stands out for its immensely skilful rendering of materials, especially the transparency of Mary’s veil, the glow of the figures’ golden halos and the sheen of the glistening pearls on St John’s cross and the Virgin’s clasp.
Come and see this wonderful work at our stand - we hope to see many of you there!

One week to go until TEFAF opens to the general public!
We are very pleased to be presenting this wonderful drawing that once belonged to the scholar Cassiano dal Pozzo, who is most remembered for his encyclopaedic ‘Museo Cartaceo’, known as the Paper Museum.
It depicts a Ray’s bream (brama brama), now known as an Atlantic pomfret, a fish which would not have been particularly easy to obtain in 17th-century Rome. The details in the beautifully rendered scales, the feathery fins and the glassy eye show not only the draughtsman’s skill, but also the blended artistic and scientific aims of the project.
Vincenzo Leonardi, the artist, is known only through his work with Cassiano but was recognised at the time as his most talented collaborator.
Come and learn more about this fantastic piece at Stand 361 - we hope to see many of you there.

Only one week to go until the preview opening of TEFAF Maastricht 2026!
One of the highlights of our stand is this monumental work depicting Ajax and Ulysses in Orcus by Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein.
An evocative painting of the tense encounter between the spirit of Ajax and the still-wandering Ulysses, it took the artist two decades to complete the composition, interrupted by the Napoleonic wars and the French invasion of Italy.
Wonderful details such as Ulysses’ departing mother Antikleia, the sacrificial ram’s head and the fighters’ blood-stained swords bring this passage from the eleventh book of Homer’s Odyssey to life.
You will be able to learn much more at the fair next week - we hope to see many of you there.

From grandiose compositions to watercolours, sketches and even their painting tools, ‘Turner & Constable: Rivals & Originals’ at the Tate Britain traces the artists’ journeys from their beginnings through their successes as participants in the Summer Exhibition and the events of their troubled relationship.
Never leaving British shores, Constable remained a Suffolk-boy at heart, often depicting his home pastures, but Turner’s travels in Europe marked both his style and the topics he chose to paint.
This momentous exhibition of two of Britain’s greatest artists, commemorating the 250th year of their births, is a must-see exhibition for all in London before 12th April.
