Welp, we got the Woo. Anybody who’s talked to me about music for more than a few minutes probably knows my deep love and adoration for Tricky Woo—and Sometimes I Cry in particular—so really, it was only a matter of time.
Selfishly, I’d been planning to play the album in its entirety on the program for a while, but it became that much cooler when Adrian and Andrew from the mighty Tricky Woo were gracious enough to hop on a call and go track-by-track with me, digging into the album in detail.
In scope, it grew larger than a one-hour radio program, so I’ll be putting together a sort of “extended cut,” so to speak, with additional interview material to release later this month.
Every edition of Xposure is special, but man, do I ever feel stoked about this one. So—Sunday at 9pm! Come celebrate Tricky Woo with me, or discover them for the first time through the masterpiece that is Sometimes I Cry.

In 1999 Dave Crider reached out about releasing “Sometimes I Cry” on vinyl on his legendary Estrus Records label. He had become aware of the album via Al from Calgary’s Von Zippers (thank you, Al). Unfortunately, the licensing terms turned out to be a headache and Dave proposed instead to put out a 7”: An offer we accepted with great enthusiasm. The result was the “Trouble”/“Rock And Roll Gypsy” double A-side 7” released in the year 2000. Pictured here is a hand-written note from Dave on an Estrus promotional postcard for the Fells’ “Youth On The Loose” LP he gave to Adrian along with a promo CD-R of Sugar Shack’s upcoming record. Incredible label, incredible guy. Thank you, Dave
