It’s all about the conversations. There’s still time to catch tickets to here me interviewing Curtis Garner aka @queer_novels about his strikingly unsparing novels Isaac and Orange at @bude_litfest tomorrow afternoon, where you can also catch me being interviewed about Love Lane by Tom Hunter. And, if you’re quick, you might yet get into Saturday’s treat of a conversation with @rachelcjoyce_writer at @bathlitfest . Do join us!

As expected, it was indeed a FABULOUS night on Friday in Oundle in conversation with Patrick Gale about his latest novel, 'Love Lane' with family secrets, music, Cornwall, growing up in the prison service, love and life as a best-selling author thrown in for good measure! There were drinks, laughs, interesting facts and a general warm feeling as a room full of bookish people had a great night out. If you haven't read 'Love' Lane', we highly recommend it for it's gentle humour, great characters and wry look at 1950s society through the lens of one dysfunctional family. Many thanks to our volunteers for making things happen, to Joe Thomas at Headline for all his help and to Patrick Gale most of all, for being a most interesting and simply lovely speaker. If you missed this one, come along to one of our upcoming events. Details here: /what-s-on @trevilley @headlinehome

Pink purslane or claytonia sibirica is so pretty, but don’t be fooled by her winsome charms or deliciousness in salad: she is a pint sized Attilla, and will invade a rose bed by stealth and spawn by the thousand.

The grandly named leontodon hispidus, aka rough hawksbit. I’ve always loved its squared-off petals and elegantly long flower stalks.

Nearly time for our open garden season. This year, in addition to our open afternoon for @nationalgardenscheme on Sunday June 7, we’ve one for Cornwall Music Therapy Trust on the 6th. No booking needed for either of these but, as ever, we welcome pre booked groups of 6 or more on weekdays throughout the month. £6 a head, bring your own picnic or cocktail kits, and it will be a delight to see you.

Evidently £15 is far too cheap for our evening garden opening with string quartet concert on June 11 as it has rapidly sold out. If you’d like to be added to a waiting list (mailing list for if we do it again) just get in touch here, or in the ways suggested on the poster.

A faintly manic shot of me having a long overdue catch-up with adorable @tiffmurray before our gig together at @stratfordlitfest . People enjoy book festivals for the chance to meet favourite authors; so do authors!
