📷Capturing the canopy🌳
(Español abajo)
🇨🇴In Piamonte, Colombia, we’ve installed the region’s first canopy camera traps to reveal the hidden life of the treetops. Will we manage to capture images of one of the most endangered primates in the world?
This expedition was made possible with support from the @the_explorers_club grant ✨ and thanks to @reservaylt our local partners @salvemosselva .

Since we began, Trepatroncos has grown into a space for learning, science, and community 🌳💪🏼
We are deeply grateful for every opportunity to climb together and to initiate this scientific project built through collaboration
Today, we are excited to continue growing, to climb for the first time with more young people, and to bring scientific tree climbing to territories where real conservation actions are already being implemented
That's why we created the Trepatroncos Fundraising Team to support the @reservaylt campaign. This initiative seeks to protect 1,054 acres of rainforest in the area where the Andes meet the Amazon, through a youth-led effort.
The Piamonte Conectado Project will enable the creation of the first protected area for the Caquetá Titi Monkey, an endemic species critically endangered, with fewer than 500 individuals remaining

Just primates doing primate things. 🐒
Although it is *believed* that we are the only primate species that can touch our little finger with our thumb, that seems a pathetic boast compared to how these arboreal athletes navigate canopy branches with ease.
Miller’s saki: earned the nickname “flying monkeys” due to their leaping abilities.
Colombian squirrel monkey: unlike clawed primates, they have flat nails so they can cling to branches with more dexterity.
Colombian woolly monkey: their prehensile tail acts like a fifth limb, gripping branches and balance.
Our youth-led team is making their way through the camera trap footage captured in the Colombian rainforest canopy, a collaboration between our science committee, @trepatroncos , @ropeyscience , and our partners @salvemosselva .

Spix's night monkey 'Aotus vociferans'
These are a unique and interesting nocturnal, new world monkey. Did you know they scratch like this because it helps with stress and anxiety? It also rids them of fleas and ticks but its a coping mechanism for situations that are uncomfortable!
Also... like humans they give birth to 1 baby but can have twins, however, whats different about these is the males are the primary caregiver. Only letting them go when they need feeding!

Join us in the canopy, where climbing meets conservation 💪🏼🌳
We’re celebrating one year of wildlife monitoring in the Amazonian-Andean canopy of Piamonte, Cauca, Colombia, using camera traps installed by climbers
We are a global network of youth climbers using tree climbing as a scientific tool, sharing these skills with local youth to protect one of the most threatened forests on the planet
This is more than a campout
It’s a call to climb with purpose

Curious capuchin!
Watch as this near threatened species of Marañón white-fronted capuchin 'Cebus yuracus' checks out the camera trap that we set up in the canopy!
I'm TOO excited not to share this right now!!! Saki monkeys on our cameras in the canopy!
With 5 species of monkeys, sloths, birds, marsupials and a bunch of other amazing finds! I am so happy these cameras captured some incredible species.
All thanks to @ijuanlucas for helping with set up!
Just listen to them beautiful noises!!
Recording canopy wildlife helps us understand the health of our forests.
We will be installing canopy camera traps for the first time in @reserva_la_victoria , creating an opportunity for local youth to engage with canopy science.
Join us and be part of this effort to learn about and protect our forests 🌳✊

Celebrate!
Youth council member @ijuanlucas dreamed up @trepatroncos to empower youth to climb trees for science and conservation. The canopy is one of the least-studied and most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, but this project will change that! 🪢🌳
From local training workshops to international collaboration, follow along to see what the Trepatroncos cameras capture!
