Olga @treivas grew up in Russia, trained as an architect, designed museums and restaurants, collaborated with one of the oldest glassblowing factories in the country — the result was a gorgeous series of vases that sold out immediately. Then she moved to Brazil with her two sons and husband. We knew of each other while both still in Moscow but only met in real life a couple of years ago in London, both immigrants. Life works in mysterious ways! Today Olga runs @treivas.team architecture bureau from São Paulo, working at the intersection of architecture, object-making, and traditional craft techniques. Russian roots, Brazilian context — there is very little precedent for what such a combination might look like. She’s just exhibited at @sp_arte , the art fair in Brazil, and has ambitious plans — as she does. TOTENS 2.0: new series of crystal objects Our expertise in crystal glass-making spans for more than 10 years — and we are still in awe of the amazing versatility that glass has to offer. Totens 2.0 crystal objects are the ones of our boldest experiments so far: we have used voluminous ornaments and applied traditional Murano glass-making techniques such as bullicante. Each item is unique and can’t be reproduced due to its technical difficulty 🫧 📷 photography by @ruy_teixeira

As seen in press: glasswork #treivas_press One of the biggest goals of our practice is to highlight the beauty and importance of handmade-crafts — we would like to thank @soda_zine @galerie.philia and @balancethegrind for discussing this theme with us. “To transform traditional perceptions of glass, I focus on expanding its applications and showcasing its versatility in innovative ways. Glass is often seen merely as a material for windows or decorative elements, but I work to highlight its unique properties — such as translucency, reflectivity, and texture — through creative and unexpected uses”, — says Olga Treivas in her interview for @soda_zine 🫧

We are thrilled to invite you to our showcase at @sp -arte, one of Brazil’s leading art & design event. In our booth we show two series of objects, made of different materials: crystal glass and jatoba wood. The name of the exhibition ‘sol na peneira’ is a redefinition of a Brazilian saying ‘tapar o sol com a peneira’, or cover the sun with a sieve. It is used when a person makes an unsuccessful attempt to hide something they did wrong. Embracing irregularity of hand-made crafts is a way to admit one’s mistake and make imperfection the strongest feature. This approach is honest, naive and profoundly feminine: just like the pieces, eye-catching in their sincerity 🌞
