This shock came to me with the description that they keep bottoming out. This person is getting fast and I was leaning towards a firmer compression tune. But I should have known. I’ve seen this in one other vivid coil. The bottom post didn’t have any loctite on it and it came loose taking all the tension off of the shims. This torque is crucial to getting compression and rebound needed. If you just have a random loss of damping maybe it’s time for a service.
Ok I’m not bashing frameworks bikes. All bikes have there quarks. I have a laundry list of issues from different brands. From Santa Cruz v10 headset cups rocking in the frame, Commencial supreme headset cups tolerances being just terrible and brake cable routing being just stupid, GTs eating holes in the rear brake hose. I can go on but I’ve got fixes for these issues. I love what frame works is doing. But every one of these I’ve worked on the top shock bolt is bent. This one is by far the worst. It’s not the bikes fault it’s partly user error. Sometimes when you bolt check it’s good to full remove the bolt not just continue to tighten it down. These bolts are easy to get at a local hardware store and if you ride one of these you should have a few on hand. I had to remove the drive side rocker to get the shock off and hammer the bolt out. Moral is take your bike apart. Future you will thank you.
This little trick I’ve been keeping secret for quite some time. Anything you need to clamp in soft jaws just give it a spritz of dawn power wash and it won’t slip. No alcohol needed. I just wipe off the excess grease and power wash the shaft and clamp. It’s efficient and confidence inspiring. You know it’s not going to slip and damage the clamped part/shaft. It also works to hold the soft jaws to your vice. I can make another video demonstrating how well it works if you’d like! Shout out to: @srammtb@rockshox@gravityacademymtb@gravitycollectivemtb
I’ve got my tool box ready for #worldchamps I know I’m going to get some hate because I got rid of the carbon lid pallet. But I’ve literally tried everything to keep the tools in the lid when I fly. Luckily with some modifications @parktoolblue hooked it up with these pallets for the lid. Also big thanks to @colorcaseusa for these sick handles and latches. Shout out to the sponsors @srammtb@rockshox@gravitycollectivemtb and @toolboxwars
I can’t stress it enough how important it is to get the correct tune for your frame/riding style. It not only gives you more range in your adjusters. It allows you to ride at your bikes full potential. Also if you’re ever tuning a shock having your shims well organized can save you so much time in measuring.
This week @uci_mtbworldseries was sick in loudenville. It was so nice to have a dry fast track. Super stoked for @mclarnon_mary making though qualifying at her first World Cup. I’m looking forward to leogang next week. Thanks to @srammtb@rockshox and @gravitycollectivemtb for there great support
