Fifty years ago today, we lost Jim Croce and Maury Muehleisen, a talented duo who achieved more in their short careers than most do in a lifetime. Their stories were the stories of America -- of low-wage workers, truckers, pool sharks, philanderers, roller derby queens, badasses, and the broken-hearted. â

Honoring a commitment made before national fame struck, the men traveled to Northwestern State University (charging the original low contract rate). After the show, Croce, Muehleisen, and four others were killed in a plane crash shortly after takeoff in Natchitoches, Louisiana. A hush went over the pool room. â

We are thankful for the music they left behind. People born decades later continue to discover and love their compositions. Our hearts are with their families on this difficult day. â
