Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore’s upcoming album Tragic Magic (out January 16) brings together the duo’s long-time friends and creative partners. Among them is Trevor Spencer.
A mixer, producer, musician, and engineer, Trevor has been a trusted collaborator for years. After contributing to Mary Lattimore’s Goodbye Hotel Arkada, he’s returned once again, this time to lend his ear, intuition, and craft to Tragic Magic.

Congrats to my wonderful friends @purebathingcult on their amazing new songs! I produced, recorded, mixed, and maybe played a few notes on the keyboard. This one deserves a place on the grid since it’s truly such a long time coming! ♥️
I met Dan & Sarah way back when I was touring with fleet foxes on the first euro tour I did when they were in Vetiver. I think this was a bakers dozen years + ago … actually the first euro tour I did with ff was the one I offered to go on for free because I really wanted to do jools holland with them and secure my job … i remember skye, josh, & I having drinks at the k west thinking that was really living … I digress!! I was immediately taken by D&S with their ability, charm, and coolness - what 22 year old wouldn’t immediately think they were the coolest?
For many years PBC would open for Misty, and even a two month tour when they came along with Tennis. I always enjoyed opportunities to do sound with them … it was too easy. The sound of them coming off the stage was so complete … just Sarah singing and Dan playing guitar had the sound baked in. So flash forward when we decided to do these songs together, I tried to bring that ethos to the production. And for the nerds, I used the same exact sauce that tasted good when I did sound for them many years ago, the Lexicon PCM80 … the exact same unit, and what @phil.ek had recommended to me as a live substitute for the EMT 140 many years ago … thanks Phil … I digress, again !
I really love these people and these songs and am just so happy for these long lasting friendships in music.

Spent the best two weeks recording with @maryoverthere & @juliannabarwick in a museum at the Paris Phillharmonic. Many incredible musical moments, fond memories, art, new friends, big laughs…!
Many shout outs for this trip…to my first cab driver who was surprisingly jolly and bright, to the security guards at the philharmonic who always met us with a smile, to the museum managers Thierry and Emma who have charm and class beyond words, to the label @infinemusic and their wonderful thoughtfulness and care, @lucajpritchard for being a good friend to us and being kind to all our requests, to the trusty pair of old u67’s (that’s for you nerds), to James Turrell, to all the new friends I made…
Thankful for this trip, especially to J&M, le “c’est bon” crew. Top travel companions and artists : )
