I’ve been diving into more footage from our recent ultra marathon over Haleakalā and also some gems from the archives. So much to touch on but I can’t help but come back to an idea that @travis.hackett planted in my thoughts as we ran. In many ways, this volcano and the land it created have fostered a huge portion of our experiences as humans. We have nothing but gratitude for you Haleakalā and I will forever cherish all of the memories. This latest experience put a lot of things in perspective for me. We’re truly some of the luckiest dudes on earth. Maui nō ka ‘oi. Mahalo Haleakalā. Slides 1-10 are from our 55 mile run. Paia to Kaupo. Ascending 10,000ft up over the mountain and 10,000ft of descent through the crater down to the ocean on the other side. 16 hours of brutal, beautiful existence. Thank you again to our perfect crew who we couldn’t have done this without. Extra special thanks to my badass Mom and my beloved @bethany.ao Slide 11: my big brother and I in the crater at the Kapalaoa cabin. Circa 2000? This trip was also my first time descending Kaupo gap (in my moms backpack 😂) Travis, @hicarlos808 and I topped off our water supply at the very same cabin, 42 miles or so into our run. Slide 12: Me proposing to my wife to be just outside that cabin in 2024. Girl of my dreams. @bethany.ao 😘🕊️ Slides 13-15: Teahupo’o 2017. At certain points in time leading up to the run, it of course felt like a crazy undertaking. However, looking back it’s no doubt that we’ve gotten ourselves into places like this before together. Just in different aspects of life. Hard to say no to an adventure with @travis.hackett I can’t thank you enough for always pushing me to my absolute limits brother. Slide 14 was a birthday gift from Travis to me the day before my 18th.
