Ten years ago in 2015 The Trans Student Educational Resources student organizers revised the original gender bread person to include more non-binary and non gender features, called The Gender Unicorn!
In 2023, I made this Việt version and emailed it to the organizers, however it went unread to be included in the list of translated versions. That's okay though, I am sharing it now with y'all to feast. I'm not the only person who is providing lgbtq resources in Việt. Though why keep them a secret from y'all??? Haha so that's why I'm sharing a bit of the ongoing hxstory of QTViet communal resources for visibility.
The inspiration to make this was because Lotus Dao, LCSW, was generating workshops for Viet families of queer children (youth and adults) to provide resources and support. Whether it was language support, tools, and/or skills on how to love their lgbtq family members, address fears etc. Launched for the Viet community in San Jose at the Viet American Service Center (VASC), it was an amazing turn out, it was led by Irene Van, LMFT, and their mama!
Did you know Lân is the Viet word for unicorn🦄?? Cool right?
