When I was creating this piece, I wanted to be as inclusive as I could. But there is no way I could hope to capture the multitudes that reside within our diverse trans & queer communities globally. Instead I wanted to share a work that y’all could contribute to as a part of defining and redefining International Women’s Day, so I created a coloring page for you.

I started HRT on February 10, 2017. Aside from the doctor at the family planning clinic, I didn’t have much support and felt very intimidated by the slew of medical supplies I was issued from the pharmacy. Needless to say, I was unprepared for the physical and mental task of injecting myself each week. But I found that, over time, I was able to create a sacred ritual for shot days that helped alleviate a lot of my anxiety and fear.
For me, taking the ‘medical’ aspect out of shot day and grounding myself in a holistic practice to support my ongoing journey as a trans person. Making this mental shift allowed me to feel empowered to embrace my transness more than any vial of hormones ever could. Doctor’s offices and being asked personal questions about my body by strangers can be disorienting, but I realized I didn’t have to carry that gravity home with me. I release fear and trepidation, and I welcome gender euphoria, self-acceptance, and the intrinsic beauty of my unique journey.

I hope you’ll join me in breaking down stigma attached to self care routines for masculine folks and help in queering self care for QTBIPOC in a cisnormative health & beauty industry.
Being trans is a divine gift. I feel extraordinarily blessed to be able to break free of the binary, explore the depths of my mind, and reconstruct a vessel that feels like home. Been thinking a lot about all my attempts to start locs. I’ve failed 3-4 times, but this round it’s forming buds! I started my latest journey in early November 2020 so I still have quite a way to go.
The whole free form process reminds me of cultivating and caring for my plants. I can’t control how my hair will loc nor can I predict all the ways my plants will grow 🪴 all I can do is give nature the space to do what it does best, influence what I can, and enjoy the journey.
