@knurlalanbloor is the solo noise project of Alan Bloor, which began in 1994. Using only various metal pieces, contact microphones, and a handful of effects pedals, Bloor constructs violent and seething barrages of harsh noise that sound uniquely organic in texture and composition. Many of the project’s recordings have been featured on Bloor’s own Panta Rhei Recordings imprint, as well as Alien8, Xerxes, Deadline Recordings, Self Abuse Records, Skeleton Dust Recordings, New Forces, Pure, and many more. Knurl has also collaborated with notable musicians Jim O’Rourke and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. By not relying on too many effects or equipment, Knurl produces grating swaths of noise by carefully manipulating and coaxing natural sounds from his found metal instruments, making him a legend of Canadian noise and experimental music.
