I wrote a Feeled Lab post about the Art and Science Residency program I was a part of this March!
Available here: https://thefeeledlab.ca/2026/05/14/in-salted/
โWhat is saltier: human blood or the Ocean?โ
Indeed, both blood and swell are comprised of the same kind of salt: sodium chloride.
Salt lakes are often believed to be lifeless. The most famous salt lake is called the Dead Sea, in English, and in Arabic.
However, salt lakes are very much host to life, and also seen as a key to understanding lifeโs past, present and possible futures.
Salt is in our bodies.
Some of the most important bodies of water.
Salt seduces.
It enhances flavour on human tastebuds.
It fixes colors to textile fibres.
It preserves food without electricity.
It makes vegetables sweatโpulls brine.
It drives mammals to travel lengthy distances to satisfy an essential Lick.
Saltโwith a particular interest in Salt Lakesโwas our focus for our Science and Art residency at Woodhaven.
Immense gratitude for this experience on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the syilx Okanagan people. The incredible depth and hope in the Syilx Water Declaration has been a formative guide throughout our visit.
Special thank you so much for your knowledge and generosity, J.R. โBanjoโ Linkevic, Carrie Terbasket @carriemelissa , Coralee Miller, Jade and all the staff at the Sncewips Heritage Museum.
To the trust, care and support from Astrida Neimanis @astridaneimanis , Fran Brouse and Shauna Oddleifson from the Woodhaven Centre @feeledlab and all the kind people who visited us and welcomed us here.

To reimagine the myth of Narcissus with his eyes closed
To turn over a rock and discover another world
To listen to the siren call of the ocean in every seashell
The glaze for the six ceramic sculptures was created based on the composition of seashells.
This work explores themes of ecology, extraction, mythology and awe.
