Interactive Installations

At the first Transcend Lab event, we gave the attendees the chance to be a part of the visual performance through two installations. The first installation was ran through Touch Designer and utilized a Kinect to track the motion of attendees. This station was mostly operated by @tymevisions (Tyler) and @oneirogenvisual (Graham) and supported patches made by all the artists. This was a very fun challenge for us all to take on and we learned a lot about what will bring this to the next level for the following event. For the second interactive installation we used wireless midis and iPads to control one of the projectors in the space through resolume and synesthesia. The day or so before the event I hit up my good friend @reino.exe to come out and help with this portion of the event. I was completely blown away by his touch OSC setup with syn and it really made for something special, allowing the attendees to truly control part of the show. Live Mocap at Transcend Lab

For this event I wanted to expand upon the ZiP Visuals project and do something new with my art. Through the power of Noitom’s Perception Neuron Suit, we brought my characters to life through dance and technology. After several sessions recording animations, @rambellefire and I started to venture into the world of running the data to unreal engine live; that is when I contact my friend @whittsellers to get involved. Whitt already has his own projects working with live motion data in unreal engine - so we integrated my characters into his camera and lighting system. This allowed for Whitt to control camera movements and do lighting shifts based on the music. Thank you to my good friend @lumiyoukhan for allowing me to use this suit and expand upon what is possible in live entertainment. Also shoutout to @remvisualart for helping me dial everything in and ensure I was ready to do this live. For the first time since I started the ZiP Visuals project, it grew and was no longer a solo act - I look forward to more fun endeavors with the team!! Thank you Christy and Whitt for all your hard work 😊

Can’t believe it’s already gone, but the first Transcend Lab was nothing short of spectacular! Thank you to everyone that came out to support the event, it means a lot and curating an experience for you all was one of the highlights of my career. There are so many people on the team to thank for all their hard work; shout out to Alex, Tyler, and Graham for crushing the visuals all night, to Christy and Whitt for being the best mocap team anyone could ask for, and also to Chris, Mike, Slava, Michéle, Lu, and Blake for the incredible music we all got blessed with. All the art displayed was cutting edge and brought together by our tech Caleb who went above and beyond to ensure this show happened. Massive appreciation to our partners at 4Life Entertainment: Nolan, Aaron, and Spencer. As well as our amazing friends over at Lacuna Productions: Blake, Zach, Mike, and Frank. To our AR team (Conor, Jess, Derek, and Jeremy) everything you guys did throughout the night made it seemless and easy for our artists to perform - thank you so much. Thank you to Milena for helping along the way and push this show through socials. Thank you to Tyler Reino for coming through and adding his interactive synesthesia setup last minute! Thank you to Perry, Ashley and all the other hand that came out to help with setup/breakdown - you truly made this show possible. And last but not least, thank you to my wife Marci - without you none of this would have happened. You not only supported me emotionally through this process but you went above and beyond creating market campaigns to spread awareness; thank you for being the most supportive wife. I know I inevitably forgot a name or two here, but thank you to everyone involved - your support is what keeps me doing this. Chris is a US and World DMC Champion who blends hip hop and electronic music together through intricate scratching and live sampling. His career includes collaborations with a wide range of artists and he has been a long standing member of the Pretty Lights Live Band. Whether he’s playing a sold-out stadium or collaborating with emerging artists, Chris continues to push the envelope, redefining what it means to be a turntablist in the 21st century. Introducing @rambellefire to the characters she will be controlling in two weeks!! Live motion capture is something that is typically used for production and behind-the-scenes work, however at transcend lab we are utilizing it in real time. All the data recorded from the blinking green lights is transmitted to axis studio where we package it up and send to Unreal Engine through NDI. In unreal it is retargeted to our characters and driven in real time with no visible delay. This is a big step forward for the ZiP Visuals project, but even bigger of a step forward for nightlife entertainment. Beyond excited to show you all the hard work we have been putting into this performance. This is only the start of what is possible, you will not want to miss it!!!
