What a sweet surprise! We were just nominated for 2 Ontario Folk Music Awards 🥰 Huge shoutout to our collaborators @garth.laidlaw and @jenna.leigh.kessler (Every Morning music video), & @soundstill and @peterklaassenbass (Velveteen and I’m So Well live performance videos) - making art with friends like these is some of our most soul-filling life experiences. It’s a lovely feeling to have our community recognize the labour and craft of these collaborations ❤️ These videos are all up on our YouTube channel, and we’d love for you to take a gander if you haven’t already! See you at the awards ceremony on October 15, @folk_canada folks 🌻

Guelph! Join us on March 12 for a powerful night of connection and community! We've got an incredible lineup of special guests, including Laura Mae Lindo, Judy Rebick, Karen Houle, Lawrence Hill, Andrew Craig and Tragedy Ann. People in Guelph are feeling the weight of a system that’s failing them—from skyrocketing grocery prices and strained healthcare to a climate crisis reshaping the vital agricultural lands our communities depend on. I’m running to lead a federal NDP bold enough to meet this moment: with public options to stop price-gouging, head-to-toe healthcare, and a Green New Deal creating millions of good-paying, sustainable jobs. This campaign has built momentum and excitement across the country. Come see why! Bring a neighbour or a friend! Everyone is welcome. Reserve your spot in Guelph now at the link in my bio! #cdnpoli #ndp #guelph

✨We’re making an album!✨ it’s finally feeling real, getting together with these friends to craft some warm & tender arrangements. Going deep into this creative headspace is a gift and a practice - and, surprise surprise, doesn’t mix well with being in the online world. We won’t be sharing much while we’re in the studio but know that we are making something really special to share with you ♥️ Wish us luck!

✨ r e u n i t e d ✨with our moonfriends! It’s been over a year since our European tour together, and the four of us are stoked to have another excuse to play together. We will be performing both bands’ material (some of which is yet to be released!) for a special concert in Athens, ON this Friday at @jbcathens . This will be our • last show • before we head into the studio to record our next Tragedy Ann Album 🥳 - more on that later! I love these photos that @bystephm took of us, in a much warmer time 👌

Only afterwards did it click: celebrating this decade of Tragedy Ann is so much more about the people we’ve come to love than the music itself. It was surreal to be with folks we met in far-reaching and nearby places, cozied up in a room together. It was palpable to feel the flow of love and gratitude between us, and I am beyond grateful that it was music that brought us together. For those who couldn’t make it, or who we had to turn away at the door, know that the whole concert was filmed and recorded by an incredible team (@soundstill @daph.tone @joshy_fairbairn ) and will be released when the time is right. It’s an incredible feeling to realize that we have been building something, and on Saturday night, we came to see just what that was. We love you, and we are here with eyes and ears open to what the next decade holds. On that note: Canadians: we have one day left to register for the @ndpcanada in time to be able to vote for their next leader. We urge you do this, so we can usher in leaders like @avi.lewis , whom we believe will work towards a future that puts people and the planet before billionaires and big-business. 📸 1 - @joshgabrielcanada 2&3 - Liv (The Tragedy Ann Museum!) @anafguelph

Now vs. then - our band just turned 10! 🥳 We didn’t really make this band on purpose - it was quite an organic unfolding. It started with Braden asking if I wanted to sing with him for his solo sets. And then, at some of his first big gigs like @summerfolk , people started asking what our band was called. “…um, Braden Phelan..?” we’d reply. Eventually we realized things were getting a lot more collaborative than just having me sing harmonies - we were sharing the vision, the workload, the creative input. So, that Christmas, we asked the family for band name suggestions. The first thing that popped out of @cameron_phelan1 ’s mouth was “how about Tragedy Ann?” - we thought: works for us! Thus began a decade of expanding into new instruments and sounds, and playing as many gigs as we could get our hands on - and then, the real work began: crafting *our* sound, understanding what spaces bring out the best in us, and getting to the heart of what this life means. We are stoked to celebrate our ‘birthday’ with a retrospective concert on January 24th, at the very place where we met: @anafguelph . Tickets are available on our website—and, thanks to support from @guelpharts , we have 5 free tickets available for folks who otherwise can’t afford one - just message us to request yours ♥️ 📸 1. @crybbcarly 2. @stellagrob 3. @triangletrees

Our last merch orders of the year will be mailed out tomorrow, right before the Festive Nites with Guelphites concert! ~ h o m e • t i m e ~ after 5.5 weeks away, tonight we return to our own bed ✨ this has been such an incredible tour, totalling 53 sets of music - and now we are so ready to be back home with our family and friends as we cozy into the festive season. Guelphites, we’d love for you to join us for our annual-ish wintersong gathering next week to snuggle up together - in the name of raising money for Art Not Shame, one of the incredible arts organizations in town doing life-changing work. HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to our shows - in some cases multiple times! 💗 - we are so grateful to have connected with you, heart to heart. 🎂 TA turns 10 in January!! 🥳 We’re throwing a big ol’ party to celebrate this milestone and we’d love for you to come! We’ll have a Tragedy Ann museum, we’ll play some throwback tunes, eat a bunch of cupcakes.. and some other special secret things we’ve got planned - all at the place where we first met: the ANAF Club in Guelph. Tickets are now live on our website! Thanks so much to the unparalleled Gillian Wilson @triangletrees for this epic poster. 🎈🎊🎈 In other news, we have one more week on tour in BC! Tonight we play Saltair, followed by Courtenay tomorrow and Duncan Thursday, before boarding the Via Rail for our sets on the train enroute to *home*. This week we played some super unique spaces - one house with a custom-built music venue in the basement and another with a vinyl collection to boggle your mind! Thanks to everyone who has been showing up with such warmth and excitement to Be there with us. (And to Carl and Jeannine for letting us take over your kitchen!) ❤️ Liv

Humans are endlessly interesting creatures, and it is such a gift to be one, here, now. Playing music and gathering to hear it is one of those things that really brings us into that deep well of humanity. It is the opposite of what the builders of these black screens want from us, and so it feels utterly strange to be using this device to share these feelings with you. Being alive right now will inevitably hold many contradictions, and this is something I’m learning to both find peace with and gently critique. I’m sitting here typing a message to you, while chickens munch on frosted grass in my periphery vision, and while snow-topped mountains gleam in the sunshine in every direction. Do you feel me reaching towards your heart? What does this connection feel like right now? These are things I long to ponder with you. These are thoughts that are filtering through as we weave our way through the Rockies to share a bit of humanity with strangers we can’t help but care for. What a peculiar life we are living, and I’m bafflingly in love with it. - Liv

Oh hi, elk - oh hi, trees - oh hi, quirky spaces in unlikely places 🌱✨ This past week has been full of surprises, all of which have landed in the-good-kind pile. The most heartwarming of which was our spur-of-the-moment concert on Denman Island. Somehow, Sheldon and Donna at the @earthclubfactory managed to fill their bistro with just 2 days notice, for a Thursday afternoon show! We even got to see our pal @richard_garvey123 there ❤️ We just left the charming town of Rossland where we played in the super-haunted and beautiful-sounding Miners Union Hall, and summoned the ghosties in our singing saw workshop the next day. Our ears are popping as we weave our way through the stoic mountains, enroute to our first @homeroutes tour stop in Edmonton. See you soon, Edmonton, Evansburg, Hinton, Valemount, Clearwater, Salmon Arm, Kamloops, Anmore, Victoria, Saltair, Courtenay, and Duncan! (Message us with your email to RSVP!)
