Thanks to everyone who joined our opening celebration of Alexandria's latest piece of public art. "00:10:00 (The Declaration of Independence)" by Richmond-based artist @sandywilliams_iv is on view outside the Alexandria Circuit Court. This new temporary artwork asks viewers to contemplate that time and, with it, the meaning of the document to our lives today. The installation represents the 600 seconds that it takes to read the Declaration of Independence as 600 of the artist’s “Time Rulers” cut in stone.

We’re excited to welcome Tara Youngborg as the newest Post Grad Resident to the Torpedo Factory Art Center! Tara Youngborg is a Maryland-based artist, educator, curator, and arts administrator. She has a BA in Art and Art History from St Mary’s College of Maryland and an MFA in Studio Art from Towson University. Their installations, video, and interactive electronic artworks are rooted in questions of how our technological processes reflect human experience. They conduct research and collect archival or scientific records, take video and auditory field recordings, and then use technological processes— handwritten computer programs, machine learning, datamoshing, and video or audio editing software—to translate and interpret the site and the technology they are using 🌐 tarayoungborg.com @tara.youngborg

We were so happy to have Avery Schoenberger in Studio 314 for the past couple of months, as part of our post-grad residency. Avery uses their art to bring to life the humanity of the queer experience throughout history, giving queer experiences form and face, and enabling their subjects to tell their own stories. Their Residency ends April 30th, so be sure to stop by and chat with them about their work and the history behind it before they leave! Follow them @schoenbergerart to keep up with their art and find out where they will be next.

Join us tonight for the opening reception of "Sensing Place" 7-10 p.m. on the third Floor, Site 3 of Torpedo Factory Art Center. There will be light refreshments and chances to talk to the artists! Sensing Place brings together our 2025-26 cohort of Post-Graduate Artists-in-Residence. Together their practices consider place not as a fixed location, but as something remembered, recorded, felt, and activated. These artists all push for a noticing of our surroundings, as they respond to places of personal importance – sometimes even responding to Torpedo Factory Art Center itself. Join the artists for a reception of their work with light snacks and refreshments. The opening Exhibition will be happening during the Torpedo Factory's 2nd Friday event, so don't forget to check out the other activities happening around the building at the same time! @sookkyung_arts @jillstauffer.art @micahmeyers_art @themeowingbird

Join @abolart for his Artist Talk at Hillyer Gallery (@iaahillyer ), Saturday, 21, 1 p.m. While you're there, check out his solo exhibition, which will be open until March 29. This exhibition features works from his Baroque series, inspired by the dynamism and grandeur of Western Baroque and the rich traditions of Eastern miniatures that I have studied since childhood. Don't forget to stop by his studio (#5) at the Torpedo Factory Art Center to see him at work!
