Triathletes: Stop Running Long Every Weekend! You don’t need a traditional long run every week to prepare for a long course triathlon. You need durability, efficiency, and the ability to execute under load. Most athletes ask: “Did I get my long run in?” Better question: “Did I apply the right stress to move my limiter?” Try shifting your weekend: Saturday = long ride with purpose. Steady aerobic work, dialed fueling, composure Sunday = moderately long ride with quality → straight into a T run *Build that run OTB progressively: 30’ → 45’→ 60’→ 90 → up to ~1:50. No rush. No hero sessions. You’re stacking fatigue, fueling demand, and neuromuscular stress—without the breakdown cost of a standalone long run. The bike becomes the anchor. It’s the safest place to build volume, raise your ceiling, and develop the engine that actually shows up on race day. 💡 The point? You’re not training to run long. You’re training to run well after 4–6 hours of correct work.

No shortcuts. No magic formula. No hacks. Just show up. Again and again. Choose discipline when motivation fades. Keep the effort steady, not flashy. It’s the quiet reps, the boring days, the long game. That’s where the real progress lives.

@ironmantri Oceanside 70.3 Race Week has arrived! Here’s how Coach @benkanute thrives in Oceanside 🧠 Swim smart. Bike disciplined. Run with intent. This course rewards athletes who stay patient early and execute late. Respect the terrain, fuel with precision, and trust the work you’ve put in. No hero moves—just calm, controlled aggression when it matters most. Let the race come to you… then go take it. #Oceanside703 #ToroPerformance #RaceSmart #keepitich

Don’t confuse getting tired with getting better. Fatigue is easy to accumulate, but progress comes from purposeful stress applied at the right dose. The only performance that matters is the performance itself — not how destroyed you felt in training. Adaptation happens when stress is specific, measured, and repeatable — not when it’s maximal. See you at the races 🫡

Are you training to track data… or training to get faster? That distinction matters. The best athletes (in any sport) don’t chase metrics — they chase execution, sensations, rhythm, and consistency. Data has a role, but it belongs in the background, supporting the process, not running the show.

It’s that time of year when athletes start evaluating plans, platforms, and promises in search of the right coaching fit. Anyone can prescribe reps, power targets, miles, or splits. That’s the easy part of coaching. What separates effective coaching from transformational coaching is understanding how an athlete thinks, feels, interprets stress, and assigns meaning to the work. Because athletes aren’t machines. They’re people—with history, ambition, doubt, pride, fatigue, and lives that don’t pause neatly for training blocks. Physiology sets the ceiling but psychology unlocks the ceiling. That’s how growth becomes transformative. If this resonates with you, let’s chat 🤝 📸 @bulldog.photography.co

Your ceiling isn’t what you think it is. Genetics draw the outer boundary, but mindset, resilience, and consistency decide where you land inside it. Your emotional load, stress, sleep, nutrition, relationships — they all show up in your training. Psychological overload becomes physical overload. There’s no separating the two. Most athletes don’t fall short because of physiology — they fall short because the rest of their life is chaotic. Clean up the stress patterns, get honest about recovery, breathe before you break… and suddenly your “limit” moves. And here’s the real secret: Progress comes from 40 boring weeks — doing the basics incredibly well for a long time. No shortcuts. No “shiny object-syndrome. No drama. Just consistency stacked on consistency. You can’t override genetics. But you can unlock a version of yourself you haven’t even met yet. Stack bricks 🧱 #toroperformance #headdown #work
