Colm Tóibín joins us in Bath to discuss his new book, 'The News from Dublin,' so to celebrate this, Bookseller Miro wrote a review: "Colm Tóibín’s 'The News from Dublin' is a devastating collection, filled with exiles, strained families and lives suspended between memory and regret. Echoing Joyce without imitation, these stories are less about Dublin itself than about the ache of being far from home. Tóibín excels at the unsaid: longing, shame and tenderness simmer beneath deceptively simple prose, where emotional restraint only deepens the impact. Two pieces stand out in particular, 'The Catalan Girls' and 'A Free Man,' both balancing distance, intimacy and heartbreak with sublime precision." Don't miss out! @archana__raghavan , our lovely colleague, had her last day today before she moves to Copenhagen. Thank you to this sweet bookseller for filling our days with joy. We’re so sad to say goodbye but thrilled to see her thrive in Denmark. She’s a ray of sunshine that sparks inspiration wherever she goes. The last three years have been special as she recommended endless books whilst juggling her full PhD studies. We’re thankful to have had a wonderful colleague who is now a lifelong friend. ♥️📚 ~Sammi

Journalist Samar Yazbek met with hundreds of survivors from Gaza asking each of them about their experience of October 7, 2023, and what their life has been like since then. She has selected twenty-six of these narratives to share with the world. Yazbek shares stories that reveal a dystopia, but the survivors remain determined to share their stories and cling to the hope that their voices will resonate. ‘Your Presence Is a Danger to Your Life’ is adapted from one of the flyers dropped on the residents of Gaza minutes before a bombing. Samar Yazbek is a Syrian author and journalist. She has published two short story collections, seven novels, four non-fiction literary narratives, and has been translated into over twenty languages. Yazbek has been an advocate for women's rights in Syria. She took part in the uprising against the Assad regime and was forced into exile soon after. The author was awarded the PEN Pinter Prize 'International Writer of Courage'. She will be joined by her translator, Leri Price. 🗓️ Wednesday 3rd June ⌚ 7pm (doors 6:30) 📍 Topping & Company Bath #palestine #gaza #womenjournalists #visitbath #bath
