Every bold idea starts somewhere. We designed the Knight Cities Challenge identity for @knightfdn around that exact truth — a map pin that doesn’t just mark a place, but radiates outward, the way a single creative idea can spark real, lasting change in a community. Thrilled to bring this vision to life for KCC, an open call inviting anyone across Knight’s 26 cities to submit ideas that strengthen local news, create economic opportunity, or cultivate connection through arts and culture. Applications are open through April 30. 📍 Animation by @briaannderson Photographs by @daniel.ribar #BrandIdentity #LogoDesign #KnightCitiesChallenge #PlaceBased #ToposGraphics

Literally Everyone’s Invited: An Ode to South Florida, edited by Gesi Schilling and Sarah Trudgeon, published by @omiamifestival Marking the 10th anniversary of the ZipOde — a place-based poetic form invented by O, Miami in partnership with @wlrn — the collection brings together poems and photographs by over 450 South Floridians across every zip code in the region. Part art book, part love letter, it is a portrait of a community written by the people who live it. The book is organized thematically — people, animals, food, place — letting poems and photographs find each other across zip codes and neighborhoods. The categories become a common grammar for a deeply heterogeneous place. That dialogue between the verbal and the visual carries into the materials. Texts are printed on uncoated stock; poems on a colored uncoated sheet that sets them apart within the flow of the book. Every photograph is printed on dull coated paper. Moving through the book, the reader can feel the shift between registers — two ways of seeing, two ways of touching. #toposgraphics #omiami #bookdesign #zipode #southflorida

Last Friday, Roy presented our rebrand for the Jewish Museum of Maryland at the @midatlanticmuseums “Building Museums” conference in Baltimore, MD, sharing the stage with JMM Director Sol Davis, Deputy Director Trillian Attwood, and Ethan Marchant of Quinn Evans Architects. The identity is built around the idea of opening a door into Jewish life in Maryland. That simple graphic move reflects a larger collaboration between design and architecture—echoing the arched portals of the Museum’s renovation and the historic fabric of Baltimore’s Jonestown neighborhood. #toposgraphics #visualidentity #brandidentity #graphicidentity #buildingmuseums

Ten-year-old Angus Labenz in our Atlanta office. Angus often drops in to see what we’re up to and provides feedback on working designs. Beyond providing important perspective, he sometimes works on projects, too, like when he contributed drawings for “Family,” the 42nd Annual @keywestliteraryseminar . The print hanging on the wall is a newsprint poster we designed for artist Alberto Checa, on the occasion of his exhibition, “Amidst Twin Suns,” which was on view at @oolitearts February, 2024. #toposgraphics #topos_in_situ

Cadaver of Red Roses, written by Zaynab Iliyasu Bobi, winner of the 2024 Derricotte/Eady Prize Since 2015, @cavecanempoets has partnered with @omiamifestival to spotlight exceptional chapbook-length manuscripts by Black poets, regardless of the poet’s publication history of career status. With seriality it mind, our design framework maintains consistent typography from chapbook to chapbook. In addition, the production media carries across the series. Each cover sheet is printed as two-color silkscreen and then trimmed and saddle-stitched to the interior text pages. #toposgraphics #cavecanem #omiami #bookdesign #bookcoverdesign

Book cover for “A Seminar Named Desire,” @keywestliteraryseminar . For the 39th Annual Seminar, KWLS was interested in literary explorations of the profane and the profound, the inventive, the graphic, and the deeply felt. It was a unique gathering of acclaimed writers in conversation about the elemental urge at the center of human activity: desire. Our cover design is heat/touch-sensitive. Purple-to-colorless, thermochromic UV screen ink is printed overtop of a flood of spot pink. The visual effect equates desire with heat, with the book changing color in the hands of readers. The flare effect is accentuated in hotter environments, like the Seminar’s outdoor venue in Key West, Florida. We’re honored that this design was recognized as a 2022 @aigadesign 50 Books | 50 Covers competition winner. #toposgraphics #keywestliteraryseminar #AIGA5050 #bookdesign #bookcoverdesign

More Than What Happened: The Aftermath of Gun Violence in Miami, book 3 in “The Miami Trilogy,” published by @omiamifestival Edited by award-winning journalist and storyteller Nadege Green, the book tells personal stories about gun violence that aren’t always visible to the public. The cover design is intended to echo Green’s journalistic history and bent, with the condensed headline typography going beyond the spine and fore-edges, suggesting that there is more to be learned about these important stories. From the publisher: “In poems, photographs, interviews, portraits, illustrations, and one sermon, Miamians talk about how they survive, grieve, and process the loss of children, parents, and friends. This book is the story of how people love each other; how communities heal and form support groups with little resources; and how school-age kids are impacted by gun violence.” #toposgraphics #omiami #bookdesign #bookcoverdesign
