Whereas paint in the first album was more focused on texture in Demain Sera Mieux I focused more on shape. The palestinian flag colours juxtaposed against the ever changing shapes of the paint are metaphors for resilience and overcoming. We recently welcomed the OKAN students from HTISA for a short demonstration. We introduced them to risograph printing and showed how we used to make linocuts using a steamroller. To finish, they chose one of the works from that period to take back to their classroom — a piece by @liesbethfeys . @industriemuseumgent @htisa_gent @nucleovzw @okanhtisa

UP NEXT Ah… l’amour ! À plusieurs ça fait moins peur Dorothée Van Biesen & friends L'Orangerie ASBL, espace d'art contemporain, Bastogne — Opening: Friday, January 16 at 6 p.m. For this exhibition, Dorothée Van Biesen brings together 25 artist friends to create a plural portrait of love. We participate with a collaborative work by Topo Copy and Jean-Michel Bansart, created during a residency at La S Grand Atelier back in 2021. The work is composed of nine small squares, each drawn twice to form two layered interpretations of the same portrait. While drawing, the upper squares were removed in a random order, resulting in repeated fragments — a nose, a cheek, and so on. The two layers were enlarged and printed in riso, each in its own color, coming together as a large-scale work. @dorovanbisou @la_s_grandatelier @anne_francoise_rouche @lorangeriebastogne

#InTheSpotlight Yesterday marked the closing of ZINE ZINE in one of the partner spaces of our exhibition 10 jaar S.M.A.K. Beweegt. Now that this presentation at S.M.A.K. has come to an end, the sketchbooks shown in ZINE ZINE will be delivered to the prison in Ghent.   The presentation brought together the five art zines created over the past few years by and for people in detention, in collaboration with print collective @topocopy and vzw De Rode Antraciet. The main focus of the presentation, however, was a series of empty sketchbooks, prominently displayed in the gallery space. As all sports and cultural activities at the Ghent prison have been suspended for more than a year and a half, producing a sixth zine is currently impossible due to the crisis in the prison system caused by overcrowding and staff shortages. What remains possible is offering people in those overcrowded cells an empty sketchbook. That is why blank copies were displayed at S.M.A.K., and over the coming weeks, the sketchbooks will be delivered to the prison.   It recently became known that De Rode Antraciet will have to cease its current activities from 2027 onwards, after more than twenty years of meaningful engagement. This prospect touches us deeply. S.M.A.K. Beweegt expresses its profound appreciation for the organisation’s work and for the ways in which they, together with their partners, have helped to build more humane detention through sport and culture. Een maand lang stond het project Zine Zine in de spotlight tijdens '10 jaar SMAK Beweegt'. Samen met Topo copy en De Rode Antraciet organiseert S.M.A.K. trajecten met workshops in de gevangenis van Gent. Tijdens deze workshops werken kunstenaars en mensen in detentie samen aan publicaties die in en buiten de gevangenis worden verspreid. Vijf edities werden gerealiseerd. Starten met een zesde was tot op heden niet mogelijk door de huidige crisis binnen het gevangeniswezen (overbevolking en personeelstekort), waardoor alle sport- en cultuuractiviteiten al meer dan anderhalf jaar stilliggen in de Nieuwe Wandeling. Naar aanleiding van 10 jaar S.M.A.K. Beweegt, besloot Topo Copy toch een publicatie te maken. Voor het eerst werd het een boekje zonder inbreng vanuit de Nieuwe Wandeling. Het werd een document dat de stilstand vastlegt en waarmee de mensontwaardige situatie en alle betrokkenen erkend worden. Na de presentatie in het museum worden de boekjes nu naar de gevangenis gebracht en er verdeeld. Voor Zine Zine 6 en de presentatie tijdens 10 jaar S.M.A.K. Beweegt werkte Topo Copy samen met Maikel De Greve.
