After an arson attack this bastion of the Bushwick queer community was totally destroyed. Top Hat Construction was brought in to gut renovate. Thousands of feet of hand-laid penny tile, custom coved construction throughout, custom designed shelving, lighting, poured epoxy, mirrored archways, and many other details made for an intricate and extensively complex project. Go see it in person and dance - you will not be disappointed!

Completed Brutalist backyard oasis for a Brooklyn brownstone. Plantings to come in the spring! Hardwood fence, benches with storage, and planters, with integrated sconce lighting. We elected to use Ipé for this project - although it is known to be difficult to work with, it will last 75-100 years. PS see if you can spot the architectural relics.

We designed and built this band shell for @elsewherespace rootop last month. Designed digitally, fabricated in pieces off-site, and assembled on the roof. Steel and powder coated aluminum.
We came back for another round @night_club_101 ! All bathrooms were tiled in brightly colored square tiles, with ceilings and floors to match. This will provide the club with easier spaces to maintain and clean, and it doesn’t look too bad either!
ARACHNOTOPIA: The origin of Top Hat 🎩During the pandemic, an old friend and client @franklinchthonics was looking for a special addition to the property. @david_kirshoff designed and fabricated a steel hexagonal platform that was built off site and installed in sections around a historic maple tree on the property. @james_must_work led the installation team onsite, sparking a collaboration that soon became Top Hat Construction 🕸️🕸️🕸️
This wood being used for our Greenpoint Warehouse Millwork project is original to the building: 100-plus year old hemlock and yellow pine was reclaimed and milled by @mfinelumber . We then refinished and used it in these pieces we are building for @bench_architecture 🪵🪚
On one of our current projects, we are doing several sets of custom wood and glass windows, railings, and conference rooms. The millwork is custom made to fit all of the new structures built in the space, detailing the environment with the effect of patina and wear. @bench_architecture 🪵🪜🪚
In a follow up from our last post - check out this kitchen we refreshed 💪🧑🍳 Rather than all new millwork, vintage cabinets were sanded and sprayed with fresh paint and a new butcher block was added. A tile floor and all new appliances completed the look, providing an economical and rapid change!
This home in Staten Island had not been updated since the 70’s. We stepped in and gave a full refresh to the home. This included a new bathroom, renovated kitchen, and refinished wood flooring throughout. The addition of all new windows and trim and a fresh paint job completed the project, quickly turning a drab old space into a vibrant new one ✨✨✨✨✨✨
Why does it sound so great in there!? One important project for @night_club_101 was the acoustically isolated stage that we designed with @ketchum_walton Custom sound isolation KIP Pad cubes were purchased to float the entire stage off the floor. The stage box was built with uprights to carry weight over the cubes, and then packed with over 75 bales of fiberglass sound insulation to deaden any vibration. The stage does not touch the walls, making it a completely acoustically tuned platform for music! Swipe through to see the process 🎼🎶🎵
Almost 5 months on and our renovation of the historic Pyramid Club has become the cultural hub Club 101 @night_club_101 . Thank you to @tommreally and the folks at @babysallright for putting your trust in Top Hat!
