8 years ago, I started a career in architecture. Still not an architect... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A memory came up in my camera roll reminding me that I started my journey in architecture 8 years ago, back in 2017, when I started studying at the Birmingham School of Architecture. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It shocked me that it was 8 years ago, even though I knew I had been doing this forever, but it also feels like yesterday that I started. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It triggered me to take a trip down memory lane, looking through old photos and presentations, and I found some gems that I wanted to share. These are all photos from the first few years of architecture school, enjoy! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #creator #architecture #thestudio #architecturestudent #diary #designer ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @tomrowstudios

5 tips to be seen in architecture⚡️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These steps are to help you: - Be remembered - Gain recognition for your hard work, skill and personality - Stand out amoungst the competition - Be yourself ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s my advise👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Create a style – like fighters, a unique style makes you memorable. Develop your signature. 2. Build a social profile – post your work, share ideas, and connect with others online. 3. Develop in-demand skills – master areas like sustainability, BIM, or AI to stay ahead. 4. Learn to communicate – clear, persuasive communication (visual and verbal) is key to selling your ideas. 5. Show your personality – let people see the real you. Authenticity builds trust and makes people want to work with you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stand out and gain recognition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Comment ‘diary’ to learn more and join my architecture diary. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #creator #architecture #exposure #branding #recognition #personalbranding #designer ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @tomrowstudios

Curated by Thomas Rowntree—an architect and content creator on a mission to inspire the next generation of architects—this collection tells the story of designing a personal home from the ground up. Framed as a dream house in progress, the palette unfolds through a series of architectural moods, each one reflecting a different room and moment of living. Inspired by the architects and spaces that shape tomrowstudios’ perspective, the selection explores how material and colour can define atmosphere—pairing warm woods with tactile neutrals, and introducing bold accents to create contrast and identity. Rather than a fixed aesthetic, the collection captures an evolving design process: a home imagined, tested, and refined through material combinations. Each composition becomes a spatial narrative, building a layered and expressive vision of contemporary living.

POV: I built my own material collection with @materialbank Whilst visiting Material Bank’s Stuttgart office, I had the opportunity to build my own material collection - curating finishes, textures, and palettes that reflect the kind of spaces I’m drawn to as both an architect. For me, this process is personal. Materials shape not only how a project looks, but how it communicates, performs, and ultimately feels to experience. Exploring this in person was a reminder of how important materiality is in bringing architecture to life. A huge thank you to Material Bank for having me - a brilliant experience and an exciting insight into the future of material sourcing and design workflows. @tomrowstudios @materialbank.europe

The ultimate material libary 🧱 Material Bank, Stuttgart Seeing so many samples in one space was pretty incredible. There’s something so different about experiencing materials in person - being able to actually see the texture, tone, finish, and start physically building palettes and combinations. It makes the design process feel so much more intentional when choosing colours and finishes. Spent the day in their studio exploring, testing, and pulling together different combinations… a very very cool studio. @materialbank.europe @architech.network @tomrowstudios

Good vs Bad: Competition Board A strong concept can still fail if it’s communicated poorly. Clear hierarchy, strong visuals, and better composition can completely transform how a jury reads your project. Small graphic changes… big difference. This is the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart - a globally recognised research centre exploring the intersection of architecture, robotics, computational design, and advanced manufacturing @icdstuttgart The ICD is pushing how we think about design and construction, using robotic fabrication, algorithmic processes, and material innovation to develop new ways of building. A fascinating look at how technology is actively shaping the future of architecture and construction. #ai #robotics #automation #construction #robot @tomrowstudios

A building about speed ⚡️ I recently visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart by UNStudio, and it’s a very cool one (especially as a Mercedes F1 fan). It’s not just a striking building, it’s a very clear idea, carried all the way through. The movement, the geometry, the experience… everything feels intentional and connected back to the concept. and it kind of reminds me why competitions are so difficult. To be successful, It’s not just about having a strong idea, it’s about how clearly you communicate and deliver it. Something I definitely struggled with as a student. That’s why I keep coming back to the Architecture Competitions Yearbook. It’s not just about seeing great projects - it’s about understanding how they think, how they develop ideas, and how they present them to actually win. For me, that’s the real value - turning inspiration into something you can actually apply. @tomrowstudios

I’ll be honest, computational design, robotics, automation… it’s never really been my world. It wasn’t a big part of my education, and I haven’t deeply explored it (though I definitely should). but I had the chance to visit the Institute for Computational Design and Construction in Stuttgart, which was eye opening! Seeing physical models and real-world applications like the livMatS Pavilion and Wangen Tower projects, which aren’t just concepts but are actually built out of the Robotics Lab, was seriously impressive. The level of research happening around timber construction, fibre weaving, and robotic fabrication is on another level. Exploring how machines and automation can improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality in construction feels like a glimpse into where the industry is heading and needs to head to improve construction efficiencies. And the robots… massive, precise, moving at speed, honestly pretty insane to witness (even if I didn’t fully understand everything going on). A fascinating and eye-opening visit, thanks so much for having us @icdstuttgart @architech.network @tomrowstudios
