LA1 all started back in 2015...
I'd followed my very first short film around the festival circuit. A private screening at @atkinsons.coffee "The Hall" was followed up with an "Audience Choice Win" on its debut festival screening in Kendal at Northern Exposures. Amazed!
After having a great time with some more success, meeting lovely people, and seeing the good and not so good in film festivals around the Northwest, I approached @_ilottj_ then at @thedukeslancaster in 2015, with the idea of starting a short film festival...
Soon after that was when I met, @luciepaluch , at the time another local filmmaker and now Lancaster entrepreneur.
The rest, as they say, is history...
The inaugural event was 6 local filmmakers showing their work to around 120 people, more a celebration of local talent than a competition. The feedback was wonderful, and LA1 Shorts began...
So, 11 years in existence, and 10 years of screenings (only covid stopped us) and still we continue to grow! More about our journey throughout the coming weeks...
Forever grateful to those mentioned above, along with; @will.d.shelmerdine@jonnyrandallfilm@darren_andrews_photography@coffeehopper@maitlandsteel Louise Bryning, @stu.powers and everyone else who's supported and continues to support us in any way, attended our events, and of course, to all the fantastic filmmakers we've met since that very first night... đđđ

A brief look back at some moments caught on film over the first 6 years of Future Yard. We're so looking forward to the next stage, and it's so close we can almost touch it.
Thanks for being part of the journey so far - and check our Crowdfunder page (see website or link in bio) for details of our next stage plans.

TOUR DIARY // LONDON, BARBICAN X2
1578 - Simon rocks up in new suit and shades. Suede desert moccasins. Brought a top-end Lebanese buffet for pre-match meal. It is the Barbican after all.
1601 - Handshakes and hugs with Rabih and Adballah from @valley_of_eyes_records for making it all happen. Rabih went for some rascal 60s Tootal scarf. Smart.
1809 - Had to borrow some Johnsonâs baby wipes from Tosh (guitarist Divine Comedy) to dab Colgate gentle whitening out of my stage trousers. Four soiled areas: fly, mid-thigh, belt loop, ankle.
1941 - Lauren playing a blinder. Simon cruising along. I asked for more of both in my monitor for enjoyment reasons.
1953 - Audience member chose Portsmouth as their ârun-down seaside townâ for âDavid and Jayneâ.
2003 - Got a (joke) roasting from Warren (Divine Comedy TM) for coming off late. I pleaded not guilty as we went on late. He had me good and proper.
2215 - Backstage. Free lesson from Warren on Wilko Johnsonâs guitar technique. He peeled off into the corridor playing Roxette unplugged. Relations fully restored.
2356 - Aftershow party in full flow. So were the halves of stout (6x).
DAY TWO:
1346 - Nipped to Superdrug in Streatham Hill for a travel-size dry shampoo. Didnât have any. Left it.
1412 - Got on the 45 bus to Brixton. Top deck. Got talking to a nice old bloke about the sun. Squinted the rest of the way.
1621 - Met Alain Bibal from Paris to do a film photography shoot outside Barbican. He was lying on the floor for most of it. Sky-shots.
1941 - Acoustic sounding dodgy in âTaxi Rideâ. Kept it steady. Not the time to try owt daft.
1956 - Same again from the acoustic. Just a weak fizz coming through. Asked the audience about it. Instantly regretted doing that. Some fella pointed out it was the lithium battery in the pickup. Useful info but not ideal material in the middle of a sold out Barbican concert.
2101 - Gave Cathy Davey a vinyl.
â˘
It doesnât get much better than two sold-out nights at the Barbican with the coolest bandmates on the circuit supporting a group like @divinecomedyhq
Or does it? Brighton Dome?
1945 K.O.
Some of my favourite people at one of the best venues making everything better. @mocktudors lifting my challenged spirits sky high with excellent support from #goodnews and @houseproud_band
Support live music and venues. You know it makes sense.
PROMO25 brought together a mix of creatives, agencies, brands and student all to get hands-on with how tech is shifting the way we make content.
Attendees sketched some props on an iPad, used AI to generate photorealistic assets in seconds, converted them to 3D, and dropped them into real-time environments, and saw how virtual production plus DMX lighting could bring it all to life on the spot, all while using the camera tracking on and off our motion control robot. WOW!
Most people know what these tools can do, but what really clicked was SEEING how they can actually be used together in a real production actually working together! Its not magic, but it does feel like it when you see it.
Itâs not just about AI content generation either (making stuff with only AI). Itâs about understanding the value of each process in the production pipeline, when to go all in on an âAI firstâ solution, versus when to use some level of additional compositional control (lighting, CGI, or other traditional production) to refine the âaskâ.
Thatâs where we come in, helping figure out whatâs worth building practically, whatâs better virtually, and where to plug in AI in the right way to make the whole content creation process smarter.
âFlexible visual content - built to adaptâ
This is just a little look back at the day in case you missed out but if you want to see how it could apply to your next project, youâre always welcome to come by and have a look around.

What a night to remember in #Sheffield! We've made a real difference for the Gaza fund. I'm one proud mama! What's our next step? My heart is bursting with pride, but it's also heavy with sadness for the mothers who've suffered unimaginable loss. đ¤ #GazaFund #MakeADifference #sheffield #awareness #palistineđľđ¸â¤ď¸đđ¤ #palistinewillbefree #palistine #love #peace #mumsofinstagram #withlovelypeopleâ¤ď¸
