I’m Tom, the other half of Dog Forbid and I thought it was long over due that I shared a little bit about myself.
It’s worth noting, I’ve always been fairly obsessive. Whether it was Pokemon as a kid, or particular bands or films\tv series as I’ve got older, I’ve always bounced around the things I loved pretty intensely. However the one thing that has never left is an obsession with being creative and expressing myself, and more specifically, graphic design.
When I was younger I decided that if I wasn’t going to be in an emo band, then I wanted to be an illustrator, and I used to spend hours drawing manga, making comics and even designing my own Yu-Gi-Oh cards; if you’ve not guessed by now I wasn’t the coolest of kids.
At A-Level I took Graphic Design as one of my subjects, and something just clicked for me. I spent every waking hour in the Art building, and dropped all my other subjects to solely study Art and Graphic Design. The obsession continued to grow, and in 2015 I even designed a typographic number every day for 365 days, and up until starting Dog Forbid I would spend any bit of free time I had designing clothes, album covers, video game artwork - this is my version of playing Fifa.
Safe to say during lockdown I received my Autism diagnosis, which surprised pretty much no one but me, but I think it was really an essential part in understanding why I am the way I am, and finally learning to work with rather than against myself.
Since Uni I’ve worked in design agencies, and also spent a few years at Footasylum as a Creative/Art Director working on campaigns for brands like Nike, New Balance and adidas. But since getting Angus, and starting Dog Forbid, all my focus has been towards working with Anna to develop the Dog Forbid brand, and I love nothing more than us working together on the creative for a new Dog Forbid launch.
This year has been pretty brutal trying our best to run @dog.forbid whilst living in a building site, but we’ve learnt a lot and achieved a lot and I’m really proud of us @annahodgson@dog.forbid
So turns out Skye is like real life Game of Thrones. Can’t wait to go back ⚔️🧙‍♂️
Thank you @annahodgson for the photos 📸
