TGIF*! For this week’s Wild One ‘skins’, we take a true nostalgia trip down memory lane with a very trippy clip from Sydney-based artist

Every Aussie primary school kid will remember the giant rainbow parachute busted out for only the most special of PE classes, and for FRIDAY*’s new track ‘skins’ the chute proves that even in adulthood we are still enamoured with it's magical properties. “We had so many ideas when approaching the video,” says director
@tom.wardd “I wanted to match how colourful FRIDAY*’s project feels, and especially this song. We had these discussions about balloons and parachutes, coloured lighting…”
FRIDAY* says “I wanted the video to feel as frenetic and sparkly as the song, which I have to thank Zion Garcia for helping us achieve that with his ADHD editing style.” The clip also employs some savvy scene framing in the form of a quite Playschool-esque square window (although FRIDAY* says the real inspo came from the iconic party scene in the Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘1979’ video). He explains “Tom and I were struck by the exterior shot of the house in the clip, where you can see the band playing through the window. We thought a fun, psychedelic take on that would be to shoot a similar scene using a floating window to give an out-of-body effect; feeling like an observer as opposed to a participant. Then we said fk it and decided to shoot a whole video like that.”
“It was this kind of on the nose a-ha moment that we should just use a window frame to capture everything” says Tom. “The idea of having the consistent piece to frame the video really spoke to us in the moment.”
Using three different filming mediums for this video (film, dv tape and iphone) was a conscious choice for this clip as an experiment to see how the different textures affect the viewer. FRIDAY* says “for me I feel this the most during the party scene when it cuts between iphone and film, it feels a bit like flickering between reality and dreams.”
