I’m still pinching myself that @svanderhoek and I won Crankworx Dirt Diaries this year! There’s no way I would be here without Steve. He has taught me everything I know when it comes to filming a bike movie, from finding the right angles to showcase the stunt to actually cutting it all together perfectly with me. Couldn’t have done this without him.

One of our goals with The Ride to Resilience Association is to start an annual film festival that creates a platform to bring community together and highlight the talent of everyone within it! We didn’t mean to make this film. When @livingston.geoff@toevs@cyclesdevinci and I started this we just wanted to make a behind the scenes documentary of biking, building, filming and everyday life along with some of the struggles we face. There were two moments that caused us to change trajectory and focus on some much bigger topics that are truly important to me. One was sitting in a room as we interviewed one of my closest friends and hearing for the first time as he explained how he intended to take his own life earlier that year. I had no idea, and I was definitely not supporting him in the capacity he needed. The other was receiving a message on IG from a random person after a podcast I did. Hearing the individual say that listening to these topics discussed so openly and bluntly caused him to not feel alone in his thoughts and prevented him from committing suicide that night.
Ride to Resilience is a simple message that you are not alone and you are each others most accessible resources. We started the Ride to Resilience Association to create a platform for mental health awareness, to start conversations and promote peer support. We intend to raise funds to create community events and donate to existing mental health associations. We are currently trying very hard to raise enough money to pay off this films enormous debt so we can release it to the public and share our message. RTR Premiere Night 1 SUCCESS!!!!
Thank you to everyone who attended and made our night better than we ever thought it could be. I will never come down from the high of positive energy that was in that room.
One of the theatre staff came up to me before the show and said “The energy in this room is something I’ve never seen in here before, everyone is so happy!” It made me so grateful to know that we could fill a theatre with so many amazing people.
We can’t wait to see a whole new group of amazing people this Saturday for NIGHT 2!!!!!
