This week I had to say goodbye to the sweetest, gentlest being I have known. Juno was a friend to all, and every morning I got the privilege of seeing her smiling face and walking out into the world with her.
It’s so difficult to hear the silence in our home now, the absence of her paws in the hallway, the jingling of her collar, the squeak of her favorite toy. But that void is filling with so much gratitude for her spirit and endless memories of joy and play and silliness.
She took such good care of Laura and I, and indeed everyone she knew, checking in with her trademark squeaks, giving a little lick to let you know she cared, and laying by your side when you needed it most.
I will miss her so, so deeply, and I will carry her spirit in my heart forever. I love you Juno, you were one of a kind.
The last few months with Juno have been challenging and bittersweet, but the arrival of spring has been really good for all three of us. She’s feeling well enough to run in the park, go on hikes, and even figure out how to dig with three paws. Juno’s as resilient as they come and we’re thankful that we get a bit more time with our sweet gal.
Sixteen months of hard work later… here is my latest project.
One of the joys of the work I do is bringing new life to a house in a way that honors its history. I feel really proud that I could preserve this home’s wonderful architecture and character while modernizing its systems and amenities for modern living. It’s ready for another half-century and I hope it provides comfort and sanctuary for whoever enters its doors.
I always find myself looking at the past more than the future on my birthday. I’ll never be certain of what the next year holds, but reflecting on the love, support, creativity, and joy of my community makes me feel ready to meet whatever it brings. I’m deeply grateful for this life, my friends, my family, and the world we get to explore together. Oh, and that big fuzzy hat, I’m definitely grateful for that.
The 🏚️Catwampus Cottage🏚️ made its debut at @burningman this year and was a resounding sweet success. We set out to create a respite in contrast to the loud music and blinking lights and people were drawn in like moths to a softly lit flame.
We dialed a lot of things back and went smaller, but better.
Watching our first time visitors eyes light up with wonder as they entered the cottage and returning hours later to see them still hanging out and making new friends filled my cup beyond belief. We invited everyone to sit down and stay awhile and magical things start to happen when you linger. You make thrilling discoveries about those around you, people feel at ease to share their art in return, and the synchronicities start to pour in and make your entire body feel electric. @bunnieluvrocks drove by in her Sky Rabbit’s House and shouted out she loved what we created, and getting to tell her that her art was a part of OUR inspiration was a *dream*, beauty and creativity is contagious.
You know when you have DPW drag their matching bar across the street to throw a party together you did something right.
Ideas for next year are already buzzing in my head but for now we rest and bask in the week of joy and connection with the incredible people that make up the Burning Man community. I’m so proud of what we did this week! @toeppen@vsrixyz@kelleyekidd@izzys_easy_pokes@mpakes and Tito❤️🔥
