Photographer Todd McLellan’s (@toddmclellan ) work explodes with energy in more ways than one. The artist masterfully showcases the beauty and intricacy of everyday items we take for granted...and would probably never have the guts to peer into on our own. We asked him: “When did you first become interested in looking at all the parts of a whole?” “It started at a super young age when I would take a hammer to my older brother’s toy cars to see what the insides looked like and if there was an engine and what the seats looked like up close. He wasn’t too pleased. This continued throughout life until the inception of the book project ‘Things Come Apart’”, he explains. McLellan was “just trying to bring new life into these forgotten relics”. He also loves “assembly diagrams that come with a lot of mechanical things to help you replace parts when broken.” Regarding his process and the creation of his book, he shares that “After several pieces, I thought—why not explore everything up until the modern day in pieces. This is what I felt I needed to do to create a book with depth. I do an exploration on a few personal things here and there, but mostly, I work on commissions now with companies who want people to understand how their products differ from their competitors. These projects are great. In the beginning, I would store the disassembled parts, but after a ridiculous collection, I began to put them back together. Everything goes back together unless it’s an electrical device that has a screen.” McLellan sent us some fantastic behind the scenes glimpses of his work process—enjoy, and marvel at the complexity!

There is a lot of debate about this machine and the supreme quality of the drip. I know one thing, the design of the Technivorn Moccamaster is exceptional. . . . . . . . #studio #product #thingscomeapart #photography #tmms #art #design #product #coffee #moccamaster #technivorn

Commissioned by Apple. When you recycle an iPhone, even the smallest pieces have a big role to play. Battery: Using a mass balance allocation, 56 percent of all cobalt and 24 percent of all lithium shipped in Apple batteries in 2023 came from recycled sources. Speaker: Made with recycled rare-earth elements. Aluminum Frame: In 2023, 71 percent of the aluminum shipped to customers came from recycled sources.    Camera and Main Logic Board: From just one metric ton of iPhone main logic boards, flexes and camera modules, we’re capable of recovering the same amount of gold and copper as found in more than 2000 metric tons of mined rock. Head into your nearest Apple store to recycle iPhones you’re no longer using or go to Apple.com/recycle to learn more. #ShotoniPhone by Todd M. @toddmclellan . Additional editing software used.

It’s that time of year where I break out the saw and head out with the family to pick our best #charliebrownxmas tree. Although I no longer have this saw, I do have my amazing @greenworkstoolscanada 80volt system. . . . . . . . . #Stihl #chainsaw #outdoors #treecutting #xmas #studio #product #thingscomeapart #photography #tmms #art #design
