GE 2025. It has been a physically and mentally demanding period, but an experience I wish I had a bit more time with. One thing I really enjoyed was seeing how others photographed the candidates. Not sure if I'd ever get a chance to do this again (and better), so here are some of my favourite profile images (posted in chronological order).
yesterday's trip to chinatown wet market. auntie took the opportunity during a lull moment to have a bite (”我很饿！”). she shared with me that she starts preparing for business at 3am, and is usually able to sell off all her produce. if you're in the neighbourhood and in need of some vegetables, do drop by!

this morning my mum told me about how, when i was a baby, my parents bought me huge soft toys. she shared about buying a plush just because she thought i would like it.
"your daddy is worse. he bought you one with straps so you can carry it."
i was struck by how much my parents love(d) me. the giddiness to freely buy their infant all sorts of knack because they want to spoil her.
unfortunately they had to give my toys away when it became clear my tiny nose couldn't handle the dust. but their love manifested in other ways — in not allowing me to have candies too frequently as a kid so my teeth would not decay; in never pressurising me in my education; in helping me drop off and pick up my film in jb; in supporting me to fulfil my dreams.

a special stand was set up just next to the usual stall to sell chinese new year goodies. many customers, clearly familiar faces, came by to ask uncle about his products, and he happily conversed with them. wet markets hold a special space for fostering the neighbourly spirit.

who realised that it has only been two weeks into the new year but you have already failed your resolutions? 🙊 taking stock now, i recognise that i overreached in my plans. there are some things i have to put aside in view of pulling greater focus and energy on others. nonetheless, i'm happy. i'm learning. it will be tedious, like all these people taking time lapses at the peak, but the result will be worth it. looking forward to a year of growth.

when asked why the owner had not had more units built for profit purposes, the staff said it would have ruined the beauty of this place. indeed, the idea was to bring people closer to nature.
life is an ongoing series of give-and-takes. what will we give up in exchange for another desirable object? more often than not, it seems logical to sacrifice the intangible for the material, with the premise that we are saving to enjoy for the future. in a culture of consumerism and overproduction and FOMO, the prevailing notion is that more is more is more is good. but more of what?
