I got caught in an avalanche.
I’ve watched this video at least a thousand times, debating whether to post it. But in the end, this felt like a lesson worth sharing.
I spend a lot of time in the mountains and that day everything seemed perfect, stable snowpack, good weather, friends had just skied it. I dropped in without a second thought.
There were signs. The shooting fractures were there, but I didn’t see them.
I was focused on making it down my line and avoiding the exposure.
Seconds later, I was being carried over it.
Zero control. A lot of thoughts in a very short time.
It really showed me how small the margin is between everything going right and it going very wrong.
We’re always managing risk in the mountains.
But even when everything seems right, it can still go wrong.
Thankfully, I wasn’t buried.
One ski lost, but a massive lesson learned.
Grateful to walk away and thanks for taking the time to read this <3
