Todd Carroll @tlcamera is one of the 25 artists showing in “Sacred Space” the 2025 Theme Show currently on view at 440 Gallery. Stop by soon to see this wonderful show and read our interview to learn a bit more about the work:
440 Gallery: Congratulations, Todd for being a part of the Theme Show. Please tell us something about your piece “Safe Space.”
TODD CARROLL: I made this piece after I saw the open call for the show! I used a combination of AI generative software and my own photographs, blending them together in Photoshop.
440: What does “Sacred Space” mean to you?
TC: Sacred Space means safety. A place free of judgement or expectations. A place where hidden truths become visible.
440: Do you enter a lot of juried shows? What do you consider when you enter a show?
TC: I go through bursts of entering a lot of shows, then take a break. The reasons for entering differ—sometimes the theme is inspiring (as with this show), sometimes the “prize” is enticing, sometimes the draw is the institution or juror(s).
440: What else do we need to know?
TC: With photography, I started out in the darkroom many moons ago, transitioned to digital, and now incorporate AI into my work. The challenge is to use the ever-changing tools in a personal way to say something interesting or beautiful about being human.
