Two@days into a wonderful event here in Germany at the #diessenertöpfermarkt. Two days into a 4 day festival of ceramics; such a great event and so many inspiring makers and creations.
And so it begins!!
Ian Morrison @knightonmillpottery and I are in #diesenamammersee for the #diessenertöpfermarkt this coming weekend. It was a long drive broken by a night in beautiful champagne countryside and punctuated with some truly great food. So good to travel with another potter who enjoys good food as much as I do. Let’s hope we sell a few pots to pay for it all!!
Photography time!!
Every year, around this time I have a small selection of pots, representative of my current work, photographed by Stephen Lenthall of @studio_article . This created a valuable catalogue of my work over time; I’ve been using Article Studios now since 2018. The photographs are also used in my application for shows and events and generally in marketing materials. I just cannot emphasise the multiplier effect it has had for me to engage ‘Lenny’ in this enduring engagement. Now just the wait for the post processing of the images before I can share a few of them.

Today I’ve been sorting through recently fired pots and selecting the pieces I’ll take to two shows in Europe this month. In a week’s time I’m heading to @diessener_toepfermarkt and the following week to @keramiekmarktswalmen . Both of these shows are highlights of my year and a time to reunite with friends. Last year I failed to bring any of these cups and saucers despite them being the subject of the photo in my show bio for Diëssen… this year I have loads… hopefully the interest in them hasn’t moved on 🤷♂️
Taking advantage of the lovely light tonight to record a few of the highlights from this weeks wood firing. It was a good firing with some really striking glaze results and body flashing. Next week I’ll be packing crates ready to head off to @diessener_toepfermarkt and @keramiekmarktswalmen in just over a week’s time. It’s always nice to feel excited about the pots you travel to shows with. Looking forward to seeing old friends and new!!
Today I’m back in the studio after leading a lovely three-day workshop with a superb group of potters @thewaldronstudio . This is the first day of a ten day making phase. I’m off to a couple of shows on the continent early next month so these pots are for glazing and firing when I return in anticipation of the summer UK shows and to ensure I have plenty of stock. I always begin a new making phase with repetition throwing of small pots. These 200g wine cups require a lightness of touch that is great to ‘get the eye in’ and relearn the soft finger sensitivity that is so needed for throwing.
Well that was FUN! The final day with Tom was filled with casserole dishes, lids, mugs, handles and incredible demos throughout the day. All topped off with a raffle - where Tom raffled off all the demo pieces. So everyone got to take 2 pieces home with them. An absolute triumph from start to finish.
Thanks again Tom for being so generous and having such high energy every day!

It’s been such a fun whirlwind of throwing LOTS of pots mixed in with some exceptional demonstrations by Tom. We went back to basics to set the foundations for bigger and better throwing. Tom has been so generous with his knowledge and expertise. We run small workshops at the Waldron so you can benefit from more 1 to 1 with the tutors.
