What were we doing yesterday two hours before our big kitten shower fundraiser?! Catching kittens 🐱 We had a last minute foster open up for two, so we went right out. Since there were only 2 spots and 7 kittens, we prioritized the sickest ones (a shitty decision to have to make, but one we have to make nonetheless). Unfortunately, the feeder had already fed so the kittens weren’t hungry enough to go in a trap. So… chaos ensued. We were able to grab the little grey guy with crusted eyes first since he was hiding in a drawer. Quite dramatic, but only a small scratch as a battle wound. Then, two were trapped in a carrier. Rookie mistake on our end - we didn’t check the latch to the carrier and it was not secure. Little Siamese ran out but she appears to be healthiest. She is still looking for a foster. Next, we spotted new orange and white eyeball guy trying to escape via a pipe. We trapped him in that corner post video but he snuck through a crack we didn’t spot and ran under the house. We then decided little orange and white girlie previously trapped in the carrier was the next closest one to need rescue. Now that we have her, we are so glad we do. She is extremely emaciated and covered in nasal & ocular discharge. She’s also very dehydrated and low energy. Both kittens were brought for intake medications and into foster. Thank you @estefany ! Heather can be visited at @coolcatcollectivelbc in long beach, ca anytime Wed-Sun 10am-6pm! She is available for adoption through @tippedears so apply through them if you’re interested in giving this sweet girl a forever home! Heather is a very sweet ~2.5yo gray tabby girl. She loves pets, especially belly rubs and head scritches, and will hop onto my bed for attention when i call for her. She has the cutest little chirping meow she used to ask for attention and when she wants head scritches, she’ll push her head up and towards you to remind you to pet her. If I wiggle my fingers at her, she’ll rush towards me for pets. She’s clingy but not overly clingy so she always wants to be next to you but doesn’t need to be touching you. She just likes to be with you and by your side. I find her waiting on my bed to hang out with me whenever i come home. She’s pretty laid back and chill but is a HUGE catnip fan. She gets along well with most cats but isn’t a fan of cats that are super high energy or constantly invade her personal space. Now, for some happy news, meet Kermit 🐸. He has happily become the little leader of the group and is also becoming quite the chunky boy. And we have a few people we'd like to thank for that. I'd like to acknowledge @kiwiandthecats for all her support in helping me attempt to get these babies healthy. Six years ago, Renae gave me my first set of sickly bottle babies and guided me through it. Six years later, she continues to be the best support system. TY for teaching me everything I know and always setting me up for success. Endless gratitude for you and all you do 😽 I'd also like to thank @zehraqazi who stepped up to be a bottle baby foster for 3 of the kittens in this litter of nine. Without Zehra, we would not have been able to take them all in. Taking in three bottle babies, let alone, 2 day old bottle babies is a HUGE deal. So grateful for you. And to Aile, who stepped in to give me a huge break by kittensitting to give me some rest and also supporting me when I knew I was losing Gonzo. It truly meant a lot to me. I really appreciate you. And to @olmos.ketzely who got me in this mess jkjk 😹 You really did rally to save these guys and did your best to outsource help. Thank you! Animal rescue is full of daily highs and lows. The most beautiful moments (a shy cat purrs for the first time, a senior cat gets adopted by the perfect family) juxtaposed by some of the most horrific. Jo’s story is a bit of both. Jo March first came to @hausanimal as a @TippedEars foster with her four siblings (the Little Women litter) in May 2024. They were covered in fleas and ticks, but they quickly warmed up to people and were healthy & happy kittens. Jo & Amy were adopted together and every update from their adopter was normal and positive. We thought they were living their best lives, until @TippedEars got a call in March that made it clear this was no longer the case. A vet in West Covina told them a cat registered with a @TippedEars microchip came through the clinic as a found stray (this was Jo). Despite the rescue’s request for the vet to hold onto Jo, they gave Jo back to the finder, who put her back outside. Luckily, a very determined @foster_kitties_oc tracked down the finder and managed to catch Jo in a yard hours later. She was severely emaciated and dehydrated. Eventually, the rescue got ahold of the adopter. He said he “rehomed” them when he moved out of state. The cats wound up with people that had no cat experience and no real interest in having cats. They kept Amy and Jo in a garage for a month, and eventually opened the garage door and let them out (or as they put it, “they ran away together.”) They had been missing since mid-February. Amy is still missing. Jo’s story, thankfully, took a happy turn. She gained her weight back — from 4 lbs to 9 lbs — via compassionate fostering by @foster_kitties_oc and @jennnnstagrams . After, a brief stint at Cool Cat Collective, we’re thrilled to report Jo is going to her forever home, where she will live a pampered indoor life full of love and attention. We still hold out hope that Amy is out there. Volunteers have spent hours upon hours canvassing the West Covina area for her. Baby Gonzo is gone 🪽 On Tuesday morning, we lost him. Gonzo was the tiniest in the litter, weighing just 67 grams when I brought him home. I honestly expected to lose him in the first few days, not two weeks later. I had hope but was still realistic. I'm really sad but mostly mad. I'm mad that he was one of NINE kittens born to an unfixed mom who gave birth in the bed of a truck. I'm mad that the mom unknowingly hitched a ride in that truck to another city, she is unfamiliar with, jumped out of the truck and is now lost, leaving behind her NINE neonatal kittens to die without her there to care for them. I'm mad that I tortured myself by contemplating for 24 hours how I could possibly assist in saving this family because it seemed absolutely impossible. Then, the first kitten died and I felt so guilty, I just said fck it, with no real plan. I'm mad that the care I give them comes with risks because I have a full-time job and other obligations and therefore, they have to leave the house with me everyday. They go everywhere I go. That is the only way I can care for them. I'm mad that I am now on high alert with the rest of the litter, watching their every move. All that being said, I'm mostly mad that it is even possible that one female can give birth to NINE kittens. And worst of all, mom is still out there, not spayed, lost in an unfamiliar city and will definitely give birth again 💔 Please support our mission to spay & neuter. It is the only way to truly prevent suffering.

Chimney Update ⭐️ Chimney had his dental two weeks ago, where they removed all of his teeth except for his canines. His bloodwork showed he was incredibly anemic. We have had him on pain medication, antibiotics, supplements, and unlimited food since we took him in. He just had his recheck last week. His anemia is very slowly improving. Unfortunately, the vet found a heart murmur and his heart appeared large on the radiographs. We have him scheduled with the cardiologist next week to determine next steps. In the meantime, he is content in foster and slowly regaining strength. The cardiologist consult will cost $900 and we just spent $600 on his latest diagnostics. Are you looking for a sweet and spunky, snuggly and playful best friend? PG13 is all that and more! She LOVES getting groomed by her feline friends more than anything and needs to go to a home with other kitties. She also loves dogs! Once PG knows you’re a cool person she will snuggle you whenever you’re on the couch or in bed, and follow you around like a puppy looking for pets, but first you have to earn her trust. PG13 has been in foster for almost 1.5 years since she was a kitten!! We have no idea how this silly wonderful girl hasn’t found her people yet, but we know they’re out there!
