YOUR OWN HOUSE / A MUSEUM OF ONE’S OWN
Starters Season 03
A conversation between Emily Conklin (@conk_shell ) and the photography of Gene Han (@genehan )
This collaborative Starter debuts our interest in photographic storytelling and its tethers to and between design and literature. Starting with a prompt from Virginia Woolf’s ORLANDO, Han revisits his parents’ home in Philadelphia — the resulting photos are on the knife’s edge between familiarity and not.

RSVP by Mariam Arwa (@mariam.arwa )
This Starter is a sneak peek: a snippet of a longer work to come via Tiny Cutlery that interweaves letter writing (emails), the working through of theory and architecture, and the glittering worlds we can build with fiction.
RSVP starts in 2037 and looks back at a symposium being planned in your honor, after your death, by the people who hated you the most.

STARTERS 3.3
“Our Land is Diggerland”
By Jocelyn Beausire (@jossslug )
Beausire visits America’s construction-themed amusement park in Jersey off-season as snow covers the ground and the Christmas lights linger on the shovels and seats of JBL extractors. These are for children to role play as America’s construction workers.
Invoking Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulation, Beausire’s words, photography, and photogrammetry take us further and further from relation, seeing extraction all at once as pure spectacle.

Thank you ALL for coming to celebrate the launch of Starters 02 in print —
Every time Tiny Cutlery hosts, a whole group of folks who have never been in a room together meet. I can’t ever take this community and this joyful ability to gather over words, ideas, and design for granted.
A huge shoutout to Rodeo for being the most spectacular venue, to each of our readers for sharing the work either at the party or between the pages, and to every subscriber, mag purchaser, and supporter we have in this community.
I hope to see you all next time, too :)
Xx TC

THE BOTTLE KEEPS THE SCORE
By Jean Pflum (@lava_lamp_princess )
Jean writes about perfume and its immutable ability to aid expression. When it’s unsafe to be yourself, scent can be a quite yet powerful tool; and the design intent behind each bottle is its own radical act.
Pflum speaks to perfumers, visits scent expos, and collects dust.
