If you know me, then you might know this force of nature @lizkalloch is one of my most beloved friends. And you might know she is a talented artist and book designer, a brilliant writer, a badass human with a high-wattage smile and huge heart. You might know that she lived with us at @toadhallnorthport after she left California. You might know that she rewrote her life, recommitting to Maine where her family origin stories began (we have the cemetery photos to prove it! 😂). What you may not know is that she needs her loving community more than ever. She is about to begin a rigorous 6 weeks of treatment for tongue cancer. There is a link in my bio to help. Every dime counts (now that pennies are a thing of the past) so whatever you have to give, we are so grateful for your support. #fuckcancer

Happy birthday, beautiful! You’re the writer in the family so I’ll use your prompt this morning, “right here, right now” there is a bird singing outside our window whose song I know by heart but whose shape I do not know. You are still sleeping soundly in the other room where you migrated when you got restless during the night and both cats have joined you so you will be delighted by their whiskers the moment you wake to this day. I am here celebrating you quietly with sips of coffee after coming out of a dream of your papa, which seems amazing because I almost never dream of him but did so on your birthday. He is here. I am celebrating your gangly stride as you walk intentionally through the world; your laugh, especially when you are tickled with something you have said yourself which never fails to make everyone else laugh with you; your reverence for whimsy and delight; your love of roadside attractions and taking the long way home. How lucky am I to be here beside you as you find the “ingredients of beauty, appreciation, and connection” and put them down on paper to show others the way? Feels like a dream this morning. Spent the day yesterday with 13 incredible humans at @haystack_school for their annual Island Day teaching embroidery skills. Some of them had never threaded a needle before and by the end of the day they were stitching love notes to the world. My brilliant friend and assistant @g.loulou said it best, everyone in the world should get a chance to experience the magic of this place. Thanks to all of these folks for showing up (and braving some pretty cold May temps!) to create in community.

Last weekend I wore a @shari.elf shirt to the opening of #MakeYourMark at @waterfallarts and everyone loved the patch on the back that says, “I like myself.” So of course I decided to start stitching tiny pocket totems who exclaim the same. After over a decade in Blue Hill stewarded beautifully by @tophatshine70 (most recently at @leafandanna.bluehill ), we are giving it a new home. Filled with tiny original artwork by 9 local artists + one Mystery Box slot, your purchase goes directly back to the artists and to Waterfall’s scholarship funds to help us keep creativity accessible to everyone! (Sidebar: when @mayastein and I visited Maine together for the first time in 2017, we stumbled upon this very Art Box and I was delighted by my purchase of a work by @teagoblet22 . We also had to say goodbye to our #TinyBookDispenser in NJ when we took leave of our imaginarium, so this feels like a magical full-circle moment for me personally! 🪄🎉💚) Come find us when you’re in Belfast and give it a whirl! #SurpriseAndDelight
