A week later and I’m still so proud of these sophomores and what they were able to accomplish this semester. They all pushed themselves and each other to go above and beyond showing their best work.
They impressed family, friends and faculty making us all excited for their future as designers. They raised expectations so I’m excited to see how they will use the summer break to continue their creative growth.

Apologies to anyone not tagged. IG limits that.
Congratulations to Tim Cox and the talented JWU Design sophomores on an outstanding portfolio review today! The work, creativity, and growth on display were truly impressive. A special shoutout to all the winners of the live voting favorites—well deserved!
One of the things that comes with being in a wheelchair is that you can’t take any location or activity for granted. You can’t just get a whim and go without research. Will there be accessible parking? Will they have stairs? Will their doors be wide enough? Will the elevator work? Will I be able to use the bathroom? Will the door shut or do I get to give a show to anyone walking by? This past weekend I didn’t have to worry about any of that. I had the opportunity through @ramp_is_inclusion to go on the @impossibledreamcatamaran
This sailboat was designed by a paraplegic for him to be able to sail it by himself. It is ramped all the way around, the sails are mechanically raised and lowered, all the counters are at my height, there are hand rails everywhere and it even has a lift to go below deck to the bathroom and bedroom area.
We got to go on a 3 hour tour around Newport. I’ve never been on a sailboat, not because I didn’t want to do it. Gang planks are too narrow, once on them, most boats have little room for wheelchairs to move around, especially going below deck. This was so fun to just go out and enjoy the beautiful day with Erin, Sully, the few other passengers and crew. I loved it.
I took a few pictures but mainly just wanted to enjoy the time. Erin took most of these. I’ve never been able to be this close to sailboats when I photographed them since I had to do it from the shore. The boat sails from Maine to Southern Florida every summer stopping at ports along the way to let disabled people have the opportunity to enjoy the sea worry free. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to go again but this was definitely a highpoint for the summer and beyond.
