At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how good your programming is, if you’re not focusing on these 3 things you won’t get faster.

While soccer athletes should absolutely be getting in the weight room, @malorie_henderlong says that their programming doesn't need to be as complicated as you might think. For a lot of soccer players, the weight room is seen as something that will slow you down or make you too bulky, and as such have never really been exposed to resistance training. A lot of what Malorie does with her soccer population in the gym really doesn't matter. Their training age is so low that just basic lifts to get stronger and stay healthy is plenty to supplement their natural athletic ability while still allowing them to perform in their sport. Of course this isn't necessarily the case for all sports. For track and field, periodization, volume, and intensity are going to matter a lot more. But for soccer, it just doesn't need to be as fancy or perfect as one might think. What matters most is that they're just getting in the weight room at all. Do you think some coaches overcomplicate strength training for low training age athletes? Let us know in the comments! THIS Gym just got our Certificate of Occupancy @thisgymatx For anyone wondering what that means: it means the city has officially approved the space for use, and we can now move forward with the final steps needed to open our doors. This was the last big thing holding us back from putting the finishing touches on the gym and setting a concrete opening date… And that announcement is coming sometime this week 👀 This video is fun and certainly shows how happy I am…but the truth is, it has taken a lot of time, effort, energy, and hard work just to get to this point But the job is not done! We’re grateful, fired up, and eager to finally open the doors to the best damn gym in ATX 😤 #thisgym #gym #atx

The FAST FORTY is not a traditional 40-yard dash @apexathlete.official Frankly, we believe it’s better More consistent More reliable And no room for human error Here’s how it works: The FAST FORTY is a 1-yard lead-in into a 40-yard fly The first laser is set up at shin height, so regardless of the athlete’s height, the shin of the first step triggers the clock The finish laser is set up at 41 yards That means you’re timed from 1–41 yards, for a total of 40 yards We also have additional lasers set up every 10 yards: 1–11 11–21 21–31 31–41 This allows us to measure each 10-yard split and ensure the highest level of accuracy and consistency No hand-timed starts (like the nfl combine or pro days) No guessing No human error No way to cheat it We’ve partnered with OVR @ovrperformance and use their timing gates because they’re simply the most reliable and consistent product on the market At APEX, every event has to have a standard So we standardized a speed test that we believe is superior to any other The FAST FORTY is not a traditional 40 It’s better Speed is the event Athleticism is the sport Finally… something to train for!

APEX ATX performance review @apexathlete.official Let’s start with the data: FAST FORTY: 4.54 THE TOSS: 65 ft THE BROAD: 9’9” THE VERT: 39.5” THE PULL: 15 reps THE PUSH: 10 reps THE MILE: 7:15 APEX SCORE: 586 20th out of 62 The good: My FAST FORTY and vert went really well. Also, honestly, THE MILE went WAY better than I thought it was going to 🤣 I did the absolute bare minimum to prepare for it, so I’m really going to commit to getting fitter between now and the next competition. I think I can go 6:30 next time The meh: My med ball toss and broad jump didn’t go nearly as well as I was anticipating. I really feel like I can go over 68 feet on the toss and 10+ feet on the broad The bad: My strength was abysmal Believe it or not, this was my first time bench pressing 225 in over two years 👀 My shoulder has only very recently gotten to a place where I can bench press again. In the weeks leading up to the competition, I was working my way back up to 225 pounds and only ever made it to 205 lol Also, not gonna lie, I didn’t train for THE PULL at all..and it showed 😅 I really think between now and the next time I compete, I can go 15+ on bench and 25+ on trap bar just from actually doing them in training and prioritizing them My overall goal is to take my APEX SCORE from 586 to 650+ at the next competition, which would have placed me top 10 at APEX ATX And if I hit all my targets for every event, I should be at 680+, which would have placed me top 3 We’ll see, there’s only one way to find out..go compete!!! Finally!!! I’ve got something to train for!!

"People are more concerned with appearing fit rather than actually being fit" @alecblenis is back on the @coachemuppodcast to talk about optimization culture, and why it's doing more harm than good. Most people are just not putting enough training stimulus into their system to warrant the level of optimization they put into minor health benefits. For some it feels like an easy shortcut to fitness, for others it's a way to gain social status or followers without actually putting in the work. There's a whole brand of fitness influencer who doesn't even workout, they just sell you on supplements and health hacks that make a minor difference at best. So... for your physical health, longevity, mental health, bank account... just go train. Why are so many people obsessed with hacking their way to fitness? Let us know in the comments!
