My album Pleasure Drives is out now! 🎧 I somehow ended up making THIS record working mainly in Ableton, tinkering “in-the-box” and leaning into that digital sound, (with the exception of some cassette tape recorded moments.) It was an exploration and reconnection to a more playful creative process. In the end, I decided to mix it myself to try and preserve the demo qualities I became attached to. Would love to hear from those of you who end up listening! I have no idea who this will reach, where is this going or when. thank you to all who were involved in this world: 🙏 @gregoryuhlmann - electric guitar and synths on tracks 3 & 5 @cloudyytots - cover photo / photos for singles @jackdoutt - masters @raylsrose - poster designs @grantgreer - visuals and animations for the “Looking At Houses” music video @nazhejaz - camera on “Looking At Houses” MV, album notes and support ♥️ Tim

Tim Carr (Perfume Genius, Hand Habits) is singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and session drummer based on Los Angeles. His newest album (out now) Pleasure Drives is a future looking vacillation of hi and low fi production drenched in California sunlight. Tim explains how growing up in a musical family ultimately led him to a career in both production and performance. He shares his experience at Cal Arts and how that encouraging community helped him find authentic expression. He tells us why the Pleasure Drives cover art guided him through finishing the record and why it felt natural to lean into a more digital in the approach. Joe and Tim discuss the challenges of finding the core of a song, the strength of limitations in writing and they entertain the wacky idea of tracking drums without any other instruments to guide the song. #timcarr #perfumegenius #handhabits #calarts #pleasuredrives #ableton #fruityloops #tandemdrums #izotope #distrokid @thetourstories is now supported by @tandemdrums , maker of Drops drum mutes. Joe’s absolute favorite drum mute for live, rehearsal and the studio. Ep supported by our friends @izotope . Head over to izotope.com now to savings on all their production software. My song Alone Playing Piano is out today! It’s the third single off my upcoming album. It’s a ballad on creativity, identity and timeless searching. Despite its title, the track drifts through a soundscape of synths, electric guitar and sea-weathered organs. baritone guitar and synths by @gregoryuhlmann mastered by @jackdoutt photo by @cloudyytots

The title track “Pleasure Drives” was inspired by the ritual of breaking free from productivity and surrendering to a sensory experience. Aimless joy rides became portals into a world that was sharper, more vibrant and more alive. I was experimenting with writing from a celebratory place as opposed to a melancholic state, and I wanted it to carry a sense of futurism. This intention eventually crystallized into an electronic arrangement with pulsating drum machines, sub bass and cathedral-like organs. it’s out everywhere 🎧 mastered by @jackdoutt photo by @cloudyytots
