A little insight into our studio work 🎶
“Honesty” by Billy Joel is a song that has been with me since my youth. Music is something deeply personal. We all have certain songs we remember in a special way, songs that stay with us or make us feel something very specific.
When I was younger, I listened to all kinds of music, from Miles Davis to Eminem to Billy Joel. “Honesty” was one of those songs I kept coming back to. It moved me deeply.
When thinking about the music for my album, I also wanted to share some of the different musical influences that shaped me along the way.
So this is a very honest little insight 💛

From Dust Till Song, or: Do it like Willie!
- When the Spark Becomes the Song -
A song rarely comes from nothing. Often, it starts with a small moment — a sentence, something ordinary — and suddenly there’s a spark.
I’m reminded of Willie Nelson’s time at Pamper Music, where he had to write songs “assembly-line style.” Used to writing in very different moments, he found himself in a bare room—table, chair, four walls—waiting for inspiration. Out of that space came “Hello Walls,” a hit that launched his career as a songwriter.
That’s what fascinates me: something ordinary sparks something bigger, and a song begins to take on a life of its own.
My new single, “Don’t Blow Off the Dust,” came about in much the same way.
During a guitar-building project, the luthier casually said: “Don’t blow off the dust.” For me, it instantly became more than just a practical note — it became a spark. Suddenly, it carried a deeper meaning: the “dust” of our lives — the marks, the scars, the stories — we should not erase them. We´d embrace them!
From that moment on, the song almost wrote itself. A classic Americana track with a clear structure, a strong chorus, and a road-trip feel — rooted in that initial spark, but free to become its own story.
I knew I wanted a native voice to bring it to life. My friend Christina Martin stepped in, recording the vocals with Dale Murray, who added pedal steel — a perfect match.
“Don’t Blow Off the Dust,” the first single from my upcoming album “For Redemption,” was released on May 1 on all streaming platforms.

Ich bin mir ja überhaupt nicht sicher, ob überhaupt jemand weiß, welche Gedanken hinter dem legendären T-Shirt unserer Band Cliff Barnes and the Fear of Winning stecken. In diesem alten Artikel irgendeines Magazins von Ende der 1980er Jahre wurde das Thema aufgegriffen und die Philosophie des Shirts erklärt: "Erst, wenn jeder die Erkenntnis akzeptiert, dass wir alle im Prinzip Assholes sind, können wir uns und damit die Welt verbessern."
Und so, wie die Welt gerade aussieht, ist das doch der beste Beweis dafür, dass die Message des T-Shirts anscheinend zu kryptisch war, um wahrgenommen zu werden. Aber - es ist nie zu spät, um den ersehnten Asshole-Status zu erlangen. Das geht natürlich auch ohne dieses Shirt, aber mit dem originalen T-Shirt ist die Transformation deutlich einfacher.
