“Dolphin Hotel” was inspired by my love for the novels of Haruki Murakami.
I have toured Japan three times, and whenever I was there, I visited places that appear in Murakami’s books. One of them was Sapporo, where the fictional Dolphin Hotel appears in the novel “A Wild Sheep Chase”.
In the story, the hotel is a strange and slightly run-down place — almost desolate, but full of character. It feels like a threshold between everyday life and something mysterious, unreal, almost subconscious.
With this piece, I wanted to capture exactly that atmosphere: rain, loneliness, movement, neon lights, and the feeling that something hidden is waiting just beneath the surface.
